New Peacock Programs for August 2024 - All the Movies and Programs You Need to See

August is a busy month for Peacock. It is the streaming debut of a highly anticipated classic TV series, the finals of two major reality TV shows, and the closing of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Peacock Original, a dramatic reimagining of Will Smith's popular sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," is entering its third season. Documentary programming includes the infamous Scott Peterson case and a new show about the Notre Dame football team, the Fighting Irish. [Peacock Original's "Love Island USA" sixth season reunion special and the uncensored expanded version of Bravo's "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" 14th season finale will air. Speaking of extended editions, the action-comedy "The Fall Guy" will appear on Peacock in both its original and extended cuts following its theatrical release.

Stephen Curry, John Woo, and a Baltimore cop highlight this month's Peacock.

Certainly NBA superstar Stephen Curry is funny to watch on the basketball court. He has plenty of talent to back him up in this mockumentary by David Caspe, the creator of the cult favorite comedy "Happy Endings." Currie co-stars with Adam Parry of "Happy Endings" as a down-and-out sports memorabilia dealer who was Currie's basketball teammate in the sixth grade.

Danny, played by Parry, reunites with Callie at the bottom of his life and tries to take advantage of his childhood friend's celebrity status. Ego Nwodim ("Saturday Night Live") co-stars as Callie's staff member, and comedy veteran David Wain ("Wet Hot American Summer") directs all six episodes. Even if Cary is just coasting, "Mr. Throwback" involves enough interesting people to make it worth a look for comedy fans.

Premieres August 8 on Peacock

The streaming debut of this in-demand crime drama from producers Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson continues to shrink the list of classic TV series that cannot be streamed at all. The recent death of co-star Andre Braugher has brought renewed attention to the inaccessibility of this acclaimed series, which aired on NBC in the 1990s and has now been remastered for an entirely new audience.

Inspired by a nonfiction book written by David Simon, who would later become the creator of THE WIRE/The Wire, Homicide, in contrast to other detective shows of its era, is more gritty and complex, with cases not always neatly organized Often. The film features a stellar cast, including the famous actors Braugher, Yaphet Kotto, and Richard Belzer, as well as Kyle Secor, Daniel Baldwin, and Melissa Leo. It is a groundbreaking police drama that finally deserves the spotlight.

Premieres August 19 on Peacock

Thanks to various licensing issues, Hong Kong director John Woo's groundbreaking 1989 action thriller "The Killer" is unlikely to be available for immediate streaming in the US. Most viewers, therefore, will be freshly prepared for this new English-language remake by Woo himself, starring Nathalie Emmanuel, Omar Sy, and Sam Worthington. Emanuel takes on the role originally played by Chow Yun-fat, playing an assassin who saves his target's life, while Sy plays a detective who pursues the assassin.

The presence of the original author lends credibility to the project, and Woo has been working for nearly a decade to bring a new version of "The Killer" to American audiences. Woo recently returned to the U.S. with 2023's Silent Night, which is the perfect way to bring his career full circle.
