iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max Wi-Fi to Get Major Upgrade - but not iPhone 16

Apple is working hard on the next iPhone 16 series. We fully expect the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro to be on our list of best smartphones. However, if the latest rumors are true, the Pro version may have an advantage over the less expensive models thanks to full Wi-Fi 7 support.

The rumor comes from Taiwanese supply chain publisher DigiTimes. According to them, it is "widely expected" that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will support Wi-Fi 7.

Of course, to take advantage of Wi-Fi 7, you need the best Wi-Fi 7 router at home. That way, you get all the benefits of the latest and greatest connectivity, including the ability to send and receive data simultaneously in three bands: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz; in all three bands, you get faster Wi-Fi speeds and lower latency with a more powerful connection; and in all three bands, you get the best of both worlds, with the ability to send and receive data simultaneously in all three bands.

This is not the first time the iPhone 16 Pro model has been rumored to include Wi-Fi 7; supply chain analyst Jeff Pu reported the same thing last year.

Samsung already supports Wi-Fi 7 on devices like the Galaxy S24 Ultra, so it makes sense that Apple would push for this upgrade. However, it is unfortunate that Apple may plan to reserve the faster connectivity for the more expensive Pro model. However, it is not at all surprising that Apple needs something other than a camera and the rumored larger display to make the more expensive Pro model stand out.

We will have to wait for Apple's September event before we can be sure what Wi-Fi the device will have. There is always the possibility that Apple will offer Wi-Fi 7 on lower-priced models as well, but from this rumor, it does not seem very likely.
