Samsung Can't Win the Thin War, Pixel 9 Pro Fold Leaked to Be Even Thinner

Samsung has positioned much of the promotion of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 as Samsung's thinnest foldable. Unfortunately for them, several Chinese manufacturers already offer thinner devices.

And now it appears that Google's next foldable, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, will be thinner than the just-released Samsung device.

According to a leak from Android Headlines, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be thinner and lighter than the original Pixel Fold, with folded dimensions starting at 155.2 x 77.1 x 10.5 mm (or 6.1 x 3.03 x 0.41 inches). When unfolded from the folded position, it measures 155.2 x 150.2 x 5.1 mm (6.1 x 5.9 x 0.2 inches), 0.4 mm or 2.4 mm thinner than the Pixel Fold.

It is also 1.6 mm thinner folded and 0.4 mm thinner unfolded than Samsung's device. If rumors are to be believed, it will remain thinner than the Z Fold 6 Slim, which could be released later this fall.

The new dimensions will make the Pixel 9 Pro Fold squatter and wider, more in line with the OnePlus Open.

The changes to the dimensions may have to do with the 8-inch inner display, one of the largest on the market. The outer display will be 6.24 inches, a big leap from last year's 5.8 inches. For reference, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 and Honor Magic V3 have 7.98" and 7.92" internal displays.

Curiously, despite being slightly lighter than the original Pixel Fold, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold's rumored weight is much heavier than the previously mentioned devices; it will launch at 257 g compared to 239 g for the OnePlus Open and Z Fold 6. The Pixel Fold is much heavier at 283g.
