Netflix Wins Best Mystery/Thriller Show of 2024 - 90% Rating on Rotten Tomatoes

I watched the latest British thriller, "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder," which was released in the UK last month and just released on Netflix.

Having read the best-selling book, I was eagerly awaiting the show's adaptation to see how the series would translate the novel's gripping plot and nuanced characters to the small screen. After watching the entire season in one sitting, I can say with confidence that the show, which boasts imposingly high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, lives up to its hype. And now, the American public can finally stream the show on the best streaming service available today.

For those who have read the books and are wondering if the series does it justice, or are simply looking for the next show to get hooked on, this adaptation is a must-see, and the reason you should stream "The Good Girl's Guide to Murder" on Netflix right now is ...

"The Good Girl's Guide to Murder" is a suspense mystery thriller show based on the popular book series by Holly Jackson. The story follows high school student Pippa Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers) as she investigates the disappearance of a classmate and becomes entangled in a complex murder mystery. The police solve the case, but Pip believes there is more to the story and is determined to learn the truth, no matter the consequences.

The official Netflix synopsis reads: "Five years after the murder of a 17-year-old girl in rural England, one student is determined to uncover the truth and find the real killer.

The show aims to combine gripping storytelling, a deep dive into crime solving, and the consequences of knowing the truth. Having read Jackson's crime mystery novels myself, I can say that this adaptation has a very interesting premise.

What makes the mystery thriller worth watching, of course, are its twists and turns, but it also depends on the characters and how they navigate the complexities of the case. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder manages to combine both of these aspects in a way that is both twisted and entertaining."

The intelligent and wise protagonist, Pip, is as determined and vulnerable and vividly portrayed as in the book. Pip's character is relatable and touching as he takes on the mission of solving the unsolved cases that haunt his small town. Especially her lack of self-awareness when asking people bold questions. And she has a habit of annoying as many witnesses as possible, all due to her complete determination when trying to make sense of a difficult story.

But one of the show's standout qualities is its ability to balance dark themes with moments of humor (and that is necessary when the story focuses on a murder). The script is sharp, the dialogue is snappy, and the viewer is fully entertained from beginning to end.

The show successfully captures the essence of Holly Jackson's book, with a thrilling combination of suspense, drama, and the unexpected. There are some typical red herrings and cliffhangers that make it nearly impossible to stop watching. However, despite being incredibly engaging, the show deviates from the book in a few key areas. I won't go into detail because it would be a spoiler, but keep in mind that some of the characters' relationships and story points are different.

"The Good Girl's Guide to Murder" currently has a 90% audience on Rotten Tomatoes from 10 critics' reviews and a 71% audience from over 50 ratings. However, this may change now that the show is being watched by a larger audience.

New Statesman's Rachel Cook says: "Watch it alone or with the wonderful young people in your life. Either way, it will be a lot of fun there, if not a full-blown riot. " Meanwhile, Independent reporter Katie Losinski made an interesting comparison: "Consider Agatha Christie's account of the encounter between 'The Famous Five' and 'Pretty Little Liars.'

Other critics pointed out the show's weaknesses, including minor plot holes, but still praised its fun: "The script is light and breezy, keeping things moving and keeping each episode to a tight 40 minutes. There's no time to get bored, obsess over plot holes, or do anything other than enjoy it," said Lucy Mangan of The Guardian.

Viewers were a little less pleased with the show due to its "odd pacing" and "lack of commitment to the source material." The majority of reviewers, however, claimed that the mystery thriller is "interesting with lots of twists" and a "welcome world-developing development."

Don't miss one of the best mystery thrillers of the year. The 2024 adaptation of Holly Jackson's novel wowed critics and audiences alike with its winding plot, engaging characters, and perfect blend of suspense and pure chaotic fun. Even if you've never read the book, you can still enjoy this thrilling show on Netflix.
