The case of 18-year-old Sarah Spears, who went missing after a night out in Claremont on January 27, 1996, received extensive media coverage and was handed over to the Western Australian Police Major Crimes Unit 48 hours later. However, little progress was made when 23-year-old Jane Rimmer also went missing in the same area on June 9. [Police continued to search for Sarah, but on August 3, Jane's naked body was found 25 miles away. A task force was set up to investigate the similarities between the two cases, but the following year, the disappearance of 27-year-old lawyer Ciara Glennon on March 15 and the discovery of her body 19 days later led to a search for a serial killer.

Bradley Robert Edwards was eventually arrested for the murders of Jane and Ciara on December 22, 2016, and charged with the willful murder of Sarah in 2018. But the story did not necessarily end there.
