It won't be long now until the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL is officially unveiled, but a new leak shows the phone in action and reveals at least one exciting upgrade
A photo shared on the XDA Forums by user pourelle shows what appears to be a Pixel 9 Pro XL demo unit (with a fake Google badge on the back) and some internal specs from a diagnostic page The page reveals that this particular Pixel 9 Pro XL has 16GB RAM and 256GB storage
The current Pixel 8 Pro has 12GB RAM, the most of any Pixel to date It also comes in a default 128GB storage version and a more expensive 256GB version So while we can't say for sure if this leak shows the default Pixel 9 Pro XL model, the fact that at least one version has more RAM capacity is good news
RAM is a key component in managing a smartphone's multitasking potential, so more is generally better However, these functions also tend to consume RAM, so Google is expected to tailor this to an AI-specific upgrade The benefits of more storage are obvious There will be more places to store photos, files, and apps
However, more memory also means higher prices for users Especially if the default storage is increased to 256 GB We have already heard rumors of this in Europe, and the price of the Pixel 9 could increase by 100 euros across the board
Another upgrade revealed on the diagnostics page is a new modem, listed as “g5400c,” which corresponds to Samsung's Exynos 5400 modem that Google is helping to produce Tensor-branded chips for Pixel devices
The Exynos 5400 is marketed as being faster than previous Samsung modems, such as the 5300 in the Pixel 8 series Since Google has historically used the same chipset across all flagship Pixels, which this year should be the Tensor G4, we would expect this particular upgrade to appear on all Pixel 9s
The next Made by Google event is set to take place on August 13, and Google has already teased the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Foldable But if you want to know more about what these devices might have in store before then, check out our Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold rumor hubs
