'Bridgerton' Season 4, long overdue spotlight on Benedict Bridgerton

'Bridgerton' Season 4, long overdue spotlight on Benedict Bridgerton

Yes, “Bridgerton” Season 3 just ended last month on Netflix, but our attention has already turned to the Regency-era romantic drama of “Bridgerton” Season 4. And after weeks of wondering which member of the Bridgerton family will step into the Marriage Mart as the romantic hero next season, we finally have our answer: Benedict Bridgton, played by Luke Thompson.

On Tuesday, July 23, the streamer announced the new lead for Season 4 on its social media pages. “Mr. Bridgerton, welcome to Marriage Mart,” Netflix captioned the post. Benedict's story comes next season.” Along with a clip of the artsy Bridgerton lad, Luke Thompson makes a cheeky cameo, in which he receives a suit for the upcoming masquerade ball.

Readers of the Julia Quinn-written novel series on which “Bridgerton” is based may remember that the masquerade ball is where Benedict first meets his main love interest, Sophie Beckett.

Benedict and Sophie's love story unfolds in the pages of the third “Bridgerton” novel, An Offer from a Gentleman. However, the Netflix series kept the order of the novels for the first two installments, with season one featuring Bridgerton's eldest daughter Daphne (Phoebe Dinever) and the Duke of Hastings (Leger-Jean Page) and season two featuring Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and his intended sister Kate (Simone Ashley), an illicit romance, but showrunner Jess Brownell and the rest of the production team decided to change the order of the storylines in season three.

The third season skipped Benedict's storyline and began in volume 4 with Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope Fetherington's (Nicola Coughlan) friend-to-lover relationship.

In the fourth season, however, the spotlight finally falls on Bridgerton's second brother. When we last saw this eternal bachelor in Season 3, it was after he turned down an offer of monogamy with Lady Tilly Arnold (Hannah New) and had a passionate threesome with the Lady and her friend Paul (Lucas Aurelio). And now we find out that he had to remain celibate in order to be free for Sophie Beckett in Season 4.

According to Netflix's announcement, “The fourth season of ‘Bridgeman’ will focus on Benedict (Luke Thompson), the bohemian second son. Despite the fact that both he and his brother are happily married, Benedict refuses to settle down.”

Brownell previously hinted that “Bridgerton” viewers will see hints in the show's third season about which Bridgerton brother will play the lead role in season four. She revealed to TV Insider: “But I think at the end of Season 3, there will be some hints as to where we're going. So I'll leave it up to the fans to pick it apart, but I think we have a small hand in it.”

Tom's Guide will keep you up to date on all things “Bridgerton” Season 4, including storylines, new characters, and behind-the-scenes tidbits. In the meantime, you can revisit the romantic journey of Benedict's siblings Daphne, Anthony, and Colin by re-watching the first three seasons of “Bridgerton” on Netflix.
