iRobot has announced the new $1,399 Roomba Combo 10 Max, the first Roomba with hands-off vacuuming and mopping capabilities available in August, the Combo 10 Max has an updated auto wash dock and regular empty and tank fill functions In addition, it can now also clean mops
This addresses the complaints of Roomba's previous flagship model, the J9+ Combo Like that model, it has its own retractable mop pad to keep carpets dry, a table above the dock, and a front camera for AI obstacle avoidance But in addition to an updated dock for a week of set-and-forget cleaning, you also get improved stain detection and matter to control from a smart home platform
The Roomba's low-profile dock is accessed through a pull door that allows the tank to be replaced from the side This leaves a lot of functionality packed under the hood while leaving a table at the top for storage and interior display It consists of three parts: a 3-liter clean water tank for filling the mop with water, a 25-liter dirty water tank for draining water, and a bin bag for storing 60 days' worth of trash
The Roomba Combo 10 Max rolls into this base to charge, empty, and refill while the dock washes and dries the mop to prevent dirt buildup and odors The entire setup is made of antimicrobial material to prevent bacteria and odor buildup
Self-cleaning robotic mop docks are nothing new, and I emphasized this point when I reviewed the J9+ combo last year; the Roborock hybrid model immediately comes to mind, but even the affordable Q Revo can vacuum, mop, and clean itself for a week At CES, manufacturers like SwitchBot showed off mop pads that not only clean and dry, but even docks that can be connected to plumbing systems for an automated floor cleaning solution
iRobot plans to add Matter support to the Roomba 10 Max through a software update in the fourth quarter of 2024 This universal protocol will allow Roomba to work with any smart home platform that supports Matter, including Apple Home and Samsung SmartThings Since Roomba has supported Alexa and Google's smart home platforms for the past decade, integrating the robotic vacuum cleaner into more complex routines from elsewhere will be a welcome change
While suction performance and camera resolution remain the same, the Combo 10 Max has several improvements The onboard camera now spots dirt for enhanced dirt detection This makes it easier to identify dirty areas and allows for cleaning in multiple passes The Combo10 Max also has a new mop-only cleaning mode in addition to the vacuum and vacuum and mop options
The vacuum cleaner can be pre-ordered at irobotcom for $1,39999 In the UK it is £1,499 and in Europe it is €1,499 The Combo 10 Max will begin shipping in August and will be available at other major retailers
