FX Announces Premiere Date for Final Season of “What We Do in the Shadows” - The End is Near

Even immortal vampires have to say goodbye, and FX has announced that the sixth and final season of the paranormal mockumentary comedy “What in the Shadows” will premiere on FX on October 21, along with the first three episodes of the 11-episode season. Subsequent episodes will premiere weekly on FX and stream on Hulu the following day.

Since premiering in 2019, “What We Do in the Shadows” has been one of FX's biggest hits and has been nominated for dozens of Emmy Awards. It has been nominated for eight Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series, at this year's upcoming Emmy Awards.

Although based on a 2014 film directed by show producers Jermaine Clement and Taika Waititi, the TV show has taken on a life of its own, eclipsing the popularity of the film. The final season gives “What We Do in the Shadows” a chance to cement its status as one of the most beloved comedy series of the past decade.

Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasha Demetriou, and Mark Proksch return for the sixth season as vampire roommates on Staten Island, as well as Harvey Guillen as fellow human Guillermo, who joined the regular cast in the fifth season Kristen Schaal as the vampire functionary known as Guide will also appear.

In the new season, Guillermo reevaluates his life after spending a short time as a vampire and tries to find his purpose instead of focusing solely on becoming a vampire familiar with the hope of one day joining the vampire community.

Other storylines teased for this season include a vampire's former roommate returning from a 50-year sleep and being forced to evaluate how little they have accomplished. Additionally, according to the season announcement from FX, the characters “become working adults, visit New Hampshire, go to human dinner parties, festival barons, and invoke demons.”

As for what else to expect in the final season, Gillen told TV Line, “I think it will end with a bang. We're in a different world.”

Co-star Matt Berry promised TV Line that there would be “stunts” and “guest stars,” although he did not give specific details. However, as the show nears its end, it is likely that fan-favorite regular characters will make a final appearance.

If you haven't checked out “What We Do in the Shadows” yet, or if you want to refresh your memory (and get a laugh) before the final season premiere, you can stream all five previous seasons on Hulu.
