Latest “Ghostbusters” Sequel Is Netflix's New No. 1 Film - But Critics and Viewers Are Divided

One of Netflix's recent additions, Ghostbusters: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, has surpassed Liam Hemsworth's military thriller Land of Bad to become the platform's new No. 1 hit.

But despite its rapid rise through the ranks on one of the best streaming services, the latest installment of this beloved franchise has sparked a major divide among audiences and critics. While some have praised the nostalgic storyline and fun cameos, others have criticized the film for not living up to the legacy of the original film.

As “Anna and the Snow Queen” continues to dominate the Netflix charts, the debate is raging as to whether the new film is a worthy addition to the “Ghostbusters” saga or something to be skipped. Is this new film a worthy addition to the “Ghostbusters” series, or is it one that should be skipped?

“Ghostbusters”: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the latest installment in the iconic franchise. The film takes the Ghostbusters team on a new adventure as they confront a supernatural threat emerging from an ancient frozen empire.

Set against the backdrop of New York City, which has been hit by an unnatural ice age, the Ghostbusters must investigate the mystery behind a sudden freak weather event. The Ghostbusters must investigate the mystery behind the sudden freak weather. As they dig deeper into the chaos, they discover an evil force from the past that threatens not only the city, but the entire world.

“Ghostbusters” mixes new and familiar faces from the original film: “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” blends the franchise's signature humor with supernatural action.

“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” blends the franchise's signature humor with supernatural action: This is coming from someone who loves the franchise. But while it doesn't quite live up to the legacy of the original version, the general enjoyment and surprisingly dark elements make it an enjoyable watch.

Professional critics, however, were less impressed with “Anna and the Snow Queen.” Rotten Tomatoes gave it a fairly low rating of 42% from nearly 300 individual reviews, the lowest of any “Ghostbusters” film based on review scores.

The Nightly's Wenlei Ma said: until “Ghostbusters” decides to throw itself into one of the eras, it will always be caught between two worlds. And that purgatory becomes an unsatisfying halfway experience.” Katie Walsh of the Tribune News Service, on the other hand, described it as “perfect, but incredibly boring.”

Audiences, on the other hand, were kinder to the blockbuster than critics, giving it a much higher score of 83%. One user review claimed that “Anna and the Snow Queen” is a “very well done sequel” with a “good plot and interesting evil powers.”

Even “Ghostbusters: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” despite Rotten Tomatoes' poor reviews, does not mean that fans of the franchise will not enjoy it. It is a sequel that seems to have been made for the series' most rabid fans, so if you have a fondness for Ghostbusters, you may be able to forgive some of its shortcomings.

So, while it didn't quite live up to my expectations (given my fondness for the original film), I still enjoyed it for what it was. The story pays homage to the original, has some fun action scenes, and injects a darker tone into the franchise. It's not an outstanding film, of course, but it's worth seeing at least once.
