LEGO is always building something special At San Diego Comic-Con, LEGO unveiled its latest collaboration with Nintendo The new set features Mario riding his faithful companion Yoshi in what appears to be a challenging set consisting of 1,215 pieces and recommended for ages 18 and up
Carl Merriam, senior designer for LEGO Super Mario, spoke about the set and its appeal: “With this model, we wanted to capture the original sprite animation of Super Mario World In other words, we recreated the pixel art with LEGO bricks and added a mechanism for Yoshi to run on Mario's back We also added a dial to move Yoshi's tongue in and out, just like in the game”
The set with Mario riding Yoshi is cool enough, but having Yoshi run and his tongue stick out, just like in the game, takes it to another level for Nintendo fans
The set tickles the nostalgia of players who grew up enjoying Super Mario World on the Super NES However, Yoshi has appeared in a large number of Mario games over the years, so even younger fans should enjoy this set
This and several other Nintendo models are part of Lego's “Adults Welcome” series The company says, “The series is designed to bring fond memories to all LEGO fans who have fond memories of Super Mario being an integral part of their childhood”
