OnePlus Pad 2 price hike hinted at, but what's under the hood may be worth it

The OnePlus summer launch event on July 16 is fast approaching, but the rumors are not stopping. New leaks have revealed the specs and price of the OnePlus Pad 2.

As first spotted by Android Police, prominent leaker Yogesh Brar shared an image on X (formerly Twitter) of what appears to be a retail package for the OnePlus Pad 2 in India. And it appears that a price hike is imminent. According to the image, the OnePlus Pad 2 will sell for ₹47,999, or roughly $575. For reference, the previous model was launched earlier this year for $479.

The official price in the U.S. is still unknown, but it is expected to be roughly $100 more than the original OnePlus Pad. According to the report, the OnePlus Pad 2 could be priced at just ₹45,999, or $550, as part of a limited-time promotion.

Nevertheless, the OnePlus Pad 2 is said to pack enough upgrades to justify the higher price. It has already been launched in China under a different name (OnePlus Pad Pro), so we know what to expect in terms of specs. The second-generation tablet is expected to feature a 12.1-inch LCD and Qualcomm's ubiquitous Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, but will have the same 9,510 mAh battery and 67W fast wired charging as the original.

If true, the OnePlus Pad 2 will have the same top-class chipset and larger, higher-resolution display found in the best Android phones like Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra, and will be touted as an iPad competitor It will attract attention as a competitor to the iPad.

The 13MP rear camera and 8MP selfie camera are carried over from the previous generation. However, this is not a deal-breaker over a cell phone, as no one buys a tablet specifically for the camera.

Rumor has it that OnePlus will launch two versions of the Pad 2 with different storage capacities and RAM configurations: one with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the other with 12GB of memory and 256GB of capacity. 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. A third version with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage is currently available in China, but does not appear to be headed for the international market.
