Huge Pixel 9 Leak Reveals Google's Entire New Lineup, Including the Next Pixel Fold

Ahead of next month's Made by Google event, Pixel 9 news continues to trickle in. Yesterday, we heard about Google's camera upgrade and the possible bundling of Gemini Advanced. Today, images of all four models have arrived, along with battery capacity and approximate charging speeds.

As documented by Android Authority, a host of Pixel 9 information arrived via Taiwan's NCC regulatory agency entry, along with photos confirming the existence of four models. These include the first appearance of the second-generation Pixel Fold, now known as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

As you can see, Google has moved the inner selfie camera to the corner of the screen, and the iconic long camera bar on the back has been replaced with a more common square arrangement.

The bezel appears to have shrunk compared to the original, and the wrinkles on the display appear less noticeable, but this may be a trick of light.

The other three models have a more familiar look, each retaining their visor-like camera bars. The Pixel 9 Pro, on the other hand, makes better use of space by adding a lens to the camera rubber.

And finally, this is the Pixel 9 Pro XL, which looks very similar, if not for the handy scale ruler.

The NCC report also reveals battery information, which is reason enough for buyers to consider the XL.

Both the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have a 4,558mAh battery, one larger than the Pixel 8's 4,485mAh battery; the Pixel 8 Pro had a larger capacity of 4,950mAh, but this will be replaced by the Pixel 9 Pro XL and its 4, 942mAh battery directly replaces it. In other words, power users may be tempted to opt for the XL, even if they theoretically prefer a more compact device.

Interestingly, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a reduced capacity. The original Pixel Fold had a total of 4,727 mAh (split between 1,460 mAh and 3,267 mAh cells), while the new model's 1,183 mAh and 3,377 mAh cells total 4,560 mAh.

This is obviously not great news, but if it makes for a more pocket-friendly phone, most users will be happy with the trade-off.

These batteries should also charge faster if you have a charger with enough wattage: 24.12W (Pixel 9), 25.20W (9 Pro), 32.67W (9 Pro XL), and 20.25W (9 Pro Fold) are listed in the NCC report.

These sound lower than the advertised speeds of the current generation, but as Android Authority points out, these are just approximations. In fact, the NCC listings for existing models record lower numbers than these, and these are the last ones shipped. In other words, we know that charging speeds will improve, but we do not yet know by how much.

Interestingly, Google appears to be planning to phase out the 30W angular Pixel charger in favor of something more in line with the company's recent curvy aesthetic.

Photos from the NCC leak show the new charger with 45W clearly printed on the back - which may be overkill if charging speeds don't improve much from the approximation in the previous paragraph. Still, it is better to be prepared for the future, and people tend to use charging bricks for multiple devices anyway.

The Made by Google Event on August 13 should give us a better look at the four devices; there doesn't seem to be much Pixel 9 secrecy left, but still tune in for a glimpse of the Pixel Watch 3 and a possible Android 15 announcement. It should be worth it.
