Hallmark Plus, starting in September - everything you need to know

Everyone knows that Hallmark movies are known for their fun, family-friendly content. Hallmark's Christmas movies have become a pop culture phenomenon of sorts. With a new streaming service, Hallmark Plus, launching this September, the holidays could get even warmer.

Hallmark Media will rebrand its subscription video-on-demand as a streaming service called Hallmark Plus. Whether you're a fan of distinctive romantic movies, heartwarming TV series, or festive seasonal specials, Hallmark Plus promises to combine these beloved content into one convenient platform.

This is because it's ad-free viewing and access to new original content and member benefits. These include “a $5 monthly Hallmark Gold Crown Store coupon, unlimited free e-cards, shopping rewards, and surprise gifts.”

Lisa Hamilton Daley, EVP of programming at Hallmark Media, said in a statement: “It will be a whole new experience in terms of both programming, functionality and look. We are looking at a linear situation. It's a little tough. We're still doing pretty well, but that won't last long."

Hamilton Derry continues: “We're trying to figure out how to find viewers where they're looking. We are trying to figure out how to find viewers where they are looking. But we had a chance to look around and see what other people were doing and what mistakes they were making. We have a chance to implement this big, cross-company idea.” [In 2022, Hallmark signed a deal with Peacock, allowing viewers to watch the channel live during the holiday season and see new holiday movies for three days after the first broadcast. The partnership was a success, and Hallmark's films became very popular among Peacock subscribers.

Hallmark Plus costs $8 per month ($80 per year), which is about the same as an Apple TV Plus subscription. In contrast, Hallmark Movies Now is currently $6/month, so the price appears to be rising due to the influx of new exclusive movies and shows.

The concept of this new streaming service is to connect shoppers and viewers, who Hallmark President Mike Perry believes are the same audience. This connection is the basis for the rewards program: “The more you watch the streaming, the more shopping rewards you get at Hallmark-owned stores.

Chief Brand Officer Darren Abbott has positioned the initiative as a “lifestyle bundle” rather than just a streaming platform.

The upcoming streaming platform will offer a vast library of Hallmark movies, but will not provide live access to linear channels. This year's 40 new Countdown to Christmas movies will premiere exclusively on the Hallmark Channel, without immediate availability on the app.

“Countdown to Christmas remains a linear experience,” says Hamilton Daley. The content on the app will be Holidazed, Mistletoe Murders, our unscripted show, and a few movie trilogies we haven't announced yet.” We have a lot of holiday content, but it will be different from what will air linearly.”

Hallmark Plus will introduce a diverse programming lineup. This includes a reality competition series titled Finding Mr. Christmas and unscripted programs such as Celebrations With Lacey Chabert, Ready, Set, Glow! and Home Is Where the Heart Is. The latter three feature Wes Brown, Ashley Williams, and Luke MacFarlane. In addition, a scripted series based on K. J. Del Antonia's novel The Chicken Sisters will air on Hallmark Plus.
