X-MEN '97” Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

True believers around the world are proclaiming, “Me, my X-Men.” That's because fans around the world are eagerly awaiting “X-MEN '97” Season 2.

Following the epic first season of the critically acclaimed Disney Plus animated series, audiences can hardly wait to see what happens next, especially after the events of the exciting three-part finale.

A second season of “X-MEN '97” was in the early stages of development, and a third season is being considered. However, fans will have to wait a while for “X-MEN '97” Season 2. After all, the show has had a serious shakeup behind the scenes. Despite these uncertainties, Marvel Animation head Brad Winderbaum, “X-Men '97” supervising producer and head director Jake Castrena, and other executives are gearing up to put the next chapter together. Here's what we know about “X-MEN '97” Season 2.

Currently, Disney Plus has not announced a release date for “X-Men '97” Season 2. However, whenever House of Ideas and House of Mouse decide they are ready for the next chapter, it will debut on their streaming service Disney Plus, along with other Marvel shows such as “Ms. Marvel,” “What If.” and “Loki.”

“X-Men '97” has quite a large cast. Allison Seeley Smith, Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, and Adrian Huff return from the original series to reprise their iconic roles as Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Beast, and Nightcrawler. Jennifer Hale takes over the mantle of Jean Grey (Madeline Pryor/Goblin Queen) after voicing Jean Grey in “Wolverine and the X-Men.”

And to round out the key members of the team, veteran actors Ray Chase as Cyclops, J.P. Kerliak as Morph, Holly Chow as Jubilee, Matthew Watterson as Magneto, and Ross Marquand as Professor X join the cast. The character's original voice actor Chris Potter still appears, but this time as the time-traveling son of Scott Summers and Madeline Pryor, better known as Cable.

Also, Bishop, played by Isaac Robinson-Smith, and Forge, played by Gil Birmingham, will likely have expanded roles in Season 1 to varying degrees, as they will be recruiting a new team of X-Men in Season 2. The same goes for Marquand and Adetokunbo Mkomack, who voiced the younger and older versions of the iconic X-Men villain En Sabah Nur (aka Apocalypse), respectively, in the season finale's final scene.

From 1992 to 1997, “X-Men: The Animated Series” adapted a number of groundbreaking Marvel Comics stories. X-Men '97” followed, and DeMayo and his team worked on ‘Operation: Zero Tolerance,’ ‘Inferno,’ ‘E is for Extinction,’ and ”Life Death.”

As a result, we witnessed the fall of the mutant nation of Genosha, the rise of Bastion, and major changes in many beloved characters. For example, Magneto violently ripped adamantium from Wolverine's bones with Asteroid M. In retaliation, and to prevent the master of magnetism from causing an extinction-level event, Charles Xavier entered his friend's psyche without his consent and forced Magneto to step aside. Unfortunately, this may have caused long-term damage to the radical mutant leader.

However, one of the most tragic moments of the entire season was the death of Remi LeBeau, aka Gambit. With the multiverse and time travel in action, many (including his beloved rogue) wondered if there was a way to bring this beloved thief back to the team. Well, it appears we are getting what we wanted. Unfortunately, it is definitely not the way we want it.

From the mid-credits scene in episode 10, we learn that Apocalypse stumbled upon Gambit's autographed playing cards. This power-hungry villain says Many deaths. But he puts even more emphasis on that last word, which seems to indicate that the “X-Men '97” version of Gambit is following in the footsteps of his comic book counterpart by becoming one of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen (especially Death).

As for the other three fearsome henchmen, the possibilities are endless. Angel, Wolverine, Professor X, Psylocke, Storm, Banshee, Polaris, and Colossus are just a few of the Marvel characters who have played that role in the past. It will be interesting to see who is hired for this iteration of the story.

As for the remaining X-Men, while some are still presumed dead six months after Bastion's defeat, Bishop finds that they are scattered almost across time and space. Cyclops and Gene have somehow ended up in the same future where “their” son Nathan/Cable grew up. Rogue, Nightcrawler, Beast, Xavier, and Magneto are in ancient Egypt, facing En Sabah Nur, who has not yet become Apocalypse. And now Bishop and Forge must form a new team to save everyone.

Does this mean the formation of other teams in this world, such as X-Force, New Mutants, Generation X, or X-Factor? But we will have to wait a little longer to see which team Bishop and the Force will form to save their fellow X-Men.
