Pixel Watch “Find my Device” support to be realized eventually

9to5Google's new APK teardown shows that Google's Find My Device offline network support feature is coming to Wear OS and Pixel Watch The offline feature is only available on Android phones, tablets, and trackers

The latest version of the Pixel Watch app has a new “Find My Watch” setting, which, according to the 9to5 breakdown, “allows you to remotely locate, lock, and erase your watch even when your watch is offline “ Currently, the app has a shortcut to the “Find My Device” app

Currently, to locate a Pixel Watch or Wear OS device, the smartwatch must be paired to a phone or have an LTE connection Otherwise, the watch cannot be discovered by utilizing Find My Device

With the addition of the offline feature, watches can now be discovered by the crowdsourced network of Android devices that Google uses to track devices This should work even when the wearable is not connected to the Internet

In the settings, offline “Find my device” can be turned on or off

Google's Find My Device has only launched in the last few months, so it may not be up to snuff yet Informal testing has shown that compared to Apple's AirTag tracker, the Android tracker struggles to ping properly; in the US, where iPhones are more popular, there may not be enough Android devices for the service to function as intended

This should improve as Google works to enhance its network capabilities With that in mind, it may be a little while before this feature makes it to the Pixel Watch It is also unclear from the code found by 9to5 whether this feature is for all Pixel Watches or just the upcoming Pixel Watch 3 We don't know why older watches can't access this service, but it's worth mentioning

Find My Device is hardware independent, so presumably other Wear OS devices should also receive this feature

As a reminder, the APK teardown examines the code that Google updates to the Play Store The code found will hint at features or apps that Google is developing However, it does not necessarily mean that the feature will be released or that the version currently in the code will be the version that will be released
