Yesterday, Google gave us our first official glimpse of the Pixel 9 Pro to counter the countless Pixel 9 Pro leaks that are happening right now But that wasn't the only announcement Google made; shortly after, a teaser for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold was released, revealing a revamped design and confirming a name change
If you haven't been paying much attention to the rumors, this may come as a surprise However, for the past few months, the rumor on the street has been that Google would abandon the “Pixel Fold 2” name in favor of a name that more closely resembles a non-folding flagship smartphone
Personally, I think the “Pixel 9 Pro Fold” is a mouthful, and I don't think I'm alone in that assessment, but it is what it is
While this teaser does not give us a full view of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, there are a few design changes I can detect in the limited screen time I have had In fact, the phone looks a bit narrower than the original Pixel Fold, which was noted for its short and wide design However, this time around, it could look more like the OnePlus Open, and recent leaks seem to confirm this [One of the things we noted in our review of the original Pixel Fold was that it was a wide design, not claustrophobic like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series
The other thing we noted was that the bezels on the inner and cover displays appear to be thinner, which is a very welcome change since that was one of the things we didn't like about the Pixel Fold Well, that and all the other flat screen Pixels phones generally have very chunky bezels
The rear camera array also has a more soirée-like design, dropping the elongated camera rubber Upon closer inspection, it appears that there are four camera lenses this year, as opposed to the Pixel Fold's three
Sadly, we don't know what this fourth lens will be, as the rumors have not revealed much about what kind of camera hardware to expect Hopefully it will be something useful and not a low-resolution macro camera
The teaser also confirms that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be announced along with the Pixel 9 Pro at the Made by Google event on August 13; the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL will no doubt be added to the mix In other words, it won't be long until all four of these models are revealed
