After months of rumors and speculation, Samsung finally made the Galaxy Ring official at the recent Unpacked event While the overall impression was positive, according to Samsung's support page titled Samsung Galaxy Ring Materials and Wearing Precautions, it appears that the smart ring must be kept away from magnets if accurate step counting is desired
First spotted by SamMobile, the support page states, “Certain features, such as step counting, may not work properly if the hand wearing the ring is holding a magnet or magnetized object”
This is not that surprising, as magnets are known to disrupt all technology But it is something to keep in mind if you are buying the Samsung Galaxy Ring, which is already becoming one of the best fitness trackers on the market
Samsung's wearing precautions page states that the fitness tracker should not be worn on the finger next to any other metal ring Since Samsung lists this in the “How to prevent scratching while using the Galaxy Ring” section, one has to assume that they are reminding us that metal can scratch
As with other jewelry, Samsung also points out that if skin irritation occurs, one should immediately stop wearing the Galaxy Ring and consult a medical professional to make sure there is no serious problem
Also on the topic of injuries, the support page also states, “Do not wear the rings during exercises involving machines, especially those that involve gripping hard bar-like objects such as weights, dumbbells, or iron bars, as this may result in hand injury”
While most of these warnings seem like common sense, the warnings about lifting weights and using magnets are definitely worth heeding before you start splashing water on your new Galaxy Ring everywhere you go
