Samsung will not include Samsung Messages by default on new US smartphones, which will eventually integrate its cell phone users into the Google Messages ecosystem Currently, the default messaging app will be Google Messages, and Samsung devices will be aligned with most other Android phones
First reported by Max Weinbach, the change appeared as a notification within the Samsung Members app
“Starting with the Flip6, Fold6, and newer models, the Samsung Messages app will no longer be preloaded Instead, Google Messages provides a new and enhanced experience for expressing your emotions, making communication safe and fun
9To5Google reported that Samsung Messages was not preinstalled on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 US review unit and Google Messages was selected as the default with RCS enabled
Outside the US, however, Mishaal Rahman reported that Samsung Messages was installed on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, so it appears to be a change in the US, at least for now
If you are familiar with Samsung's Messages app and like it, you can still download it to your phone through the Galaxy Store, but “some features are excluded,” according to Samsung
