New on Netflix: 5 Movies and Shows to Watch This Week (July 22-28)

This week's new Netflix TV shows and movies may be too hot to handle.

If you get the chilling wordplay, you're probably an avid fan of Netflix's reality shows. If so, I have good news for you. The hit Netflix show about attractive bachelors who literally don't want to let go has already aired halfway through its sixth season. Catch up now, as new episodes will be available this Friday. [Aside from sultry reality shows, there's also “The Decameron,” an irreverent dark comedy about a plague that struck Italy in 1348. The hit animated family fantasy series “The Dragon Prince” also returns for its sixth season this Saturday.

More to watch. There's plenty more, so here's a daily roundup of this week's new arrivals on Netflix.

If you were listening to boy bands in the 1990s, you were probably listening to a band managed by Lou Pearlman. He started by forming and funding the Backstreet Boys (who you probably heard of) and did the same with NSYNC. Between the two bands, Pearlman contributed to hundreds of millions in record sales.

But Pearlman also turned out to be the most prolific white-collar criminal the world had ever seen. In Dirty Pop: The Boy Band Scam, Netflix combines never-before-seen archival footage with unique access to the artists Perlman managed, their epic rise to global stardom, and one of the longest-running Ponzi schemes in American history. The spotlight is on one of the longest running Ponzi schemes in U.S. history.

For fans of MTV's hit show “Pimp My Ride,” Netflix has a show for you. This time around, Xzibit will not appear. Instead, comedian and actor Chris Redd will host the show. In “Ride Resurrected,” Redd and a team of car experts give old, beat-up cars a new lease of life with customized makeovers.

Trailer highlights include a van with a hammock attached to the front of the vehicle and a full-scale recreation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy van that launches fake pizzas.

Today, the Tuscan countryside seems like an ideal vacation destination. But in 1348, the Black Plague tore through Italy, bringing death and destruction. And it is here that Netflix's “The Decameron” is set.

In this Netflix original series, several wealthy noblemen leave Florence and take their servants to a villa to enjoy a drunken vacation away from the plague. But the wine-fueled shenanigans soon devolve into a chaotic battle for survival. Fans of “The Great” and even “The White Lotus” should check out this dark comedy.

If you're a fan of the original “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series like I am, you're already caught up on “The Dragon Prince” and will be watching season 6 in one sitting this weekend. But for those of you who don't know, this animated fantasy is set in a world where dragons, humans, and elves struggle to coexist. While the powerful dragon Abyssandam manages to keep a delicate peace for a while, that peace is shattered when a human kills the king of dragons.

The sixth season is titled “Book Six”: human mage Callum (Jack DeSena) and moon-shadow elf assassin Layla (Paula Burrows) search for a way to destroy the evil Startouch elf Aravos (Eric Dellums) before he unleashes chaos. While most ages will enjoy this film, it should not be shown to young children because of the violence and dark themes.

What happens when you take a group of attractive people and throw them on an island where they are partially clothed most of the time? That has been the premise of many reality shows. But in Too Hot to Handle, a twist is added. If Lana, the show's AI ruler, catches the contestants dating, they lose their prize money.

The show has been a huge hit on Netflix, and Season 6 continues to feature plenty of “naughty nymphs” who try to be good and ultimately fail. But this new season adds a new twist in the form of “Bad Lana,” who encourages people to throw the rules out the window. The first four episodes are already available for streaming, and three new episodes will be available this Friday.
