Siri 20 for the iPhone may launch later than expected, according to a July 7 piece from Mark Gurman's "Power On" newsletter
Gurman had already reported that the revamped Siri with Apple Intelligence and coming as part of the iOS 18 update would not fully launch until next year, rather than this fall when Apple Intelligence in general is available However, Gurman now has more specific information about when Siri 20 will appear, stating that it will appear as a beta version in January 2025, with the final version appearing in the spring 2025 iOS 184 update
As some consolation, Garman continues, Siri's new design, with its shiny borders and refreshed logo, will still appear in fall 2024 chatGPT support will allow Siri to suggest using OpenAI chatbots to answer inquiries that it cannot do alone which will also appear at this time
Apple certainly announced that AI capabilities would be coming at WWDC 2024 last month, showing that it is not lagging behind competitors such as Google and Samsung However, Apple is taking its time with its rollout; Apple Intelligence is in beta and is only available for devices running in US English
These features could not have come at a better time for Siri, which has a reputation as a simple digital assistant; as we saw on stage at WWDC, the new AI-powered Siri can perform tasks within apps, such as editing photos on your behalf, understand on-screen context and will be able to use that context to better understand your commands
iOS 18 by itself adds many fun features to your iPhone without the help of Apple Intelligence This includes re-coloring the app icons, customizing the Control Center, a new Photos app design, and for the first time, a dedicated password app
iOS 18 is expected to launch this fall, around the same time as the iPhone 16 launch The new iOS will be available on the 2018 iPhone Xs and later, but the latest iPhone model, or at least the iPhone 15 Pro, will be required to fully use the new Siri with Apple Intelligence
