WhatsApp will soon be able to analyze and edit photos with Meta AI, according to information discovered in the messaging app's beta version.

A recent report from WaBetaInfo reveals that WhatsApp beta version 2.24.14.20 for Android includes this new AI feature. The report includes an image showing WhatsApp's meta-AI chat, with a new camera button in the text input box. When this button is pressed, a pop-up appears, informing the user that the Meta AI has reacted to the photo and is now ready to edit it.

This pop-up indicates that the user can ask the AI questions about the image and its content. This would likely take the form of summarizing the photo and providing potential information about the location and people in the photo. Analyzing photos in this way may be a concern because of potential security risks, but the disclaimer states that images can be deleted at any time.

The image also displays options for editing the user's photo, which works by telling Meta AI how the user would like to edit it. However, it is not known how detailed the editing options will be. This feature could connect with Meta AI's "Imagine Me" feature, which can generate AI avatars based on a series of photos.

Meta just recently released Llama 3, the latest version of its AI-powered large-scale language model, which is at least seven times larger than the previous version. This new model seems to underpin WhatsApp's new AI capabilities and promises to be much more efficient than rival ChatGPT-4.
