Android 15 may have a customizable color blindness correction mode - how does it work?

Color blindness is a fairly common condition affecting many people, and now it appears that Android may be getting new features to make life easier for those affected.

Android Authority reports that Android 15 may add a new feature to further assist users with color blindness. This tool is an intensity slider that can be used to increase or decrease the amount by which certain colors are corrected on the phone.

The intensity slider is not currently available, but the Android Authority team was able to manually turn the feature on and try it out. The slider has three values (low, medium, and high) and appears to allow users to fine-tune the intensity of the color balance change. The fine-tuning increases or decreases the hue of the colors and may help users with different levels of color blindness.

This is a rather promising tool that adds personalization to something as simple as an on/off button. In the presence of severe and triple color blindness, this feature would make android phones more accessible to everyone.

Of course, androids have had some form of color correction controls for years. Currently, color correction settings can be found in Settings - Accessibility - Color and Motion. On this page, you can turn on or off several modes that may be helpful to users with color perception problems, including Protan (red-green), Tritan (blue-yellow), Deutan (green-red), grayscale, or personalized color settings.

Turning these settings on will adjust the color balance, changing colors and increasing contrast to make it easier for people with color blindness to distinguish colors. if the new features discovered by Android Authority make it into the released version of Android 15 will add a new intensity slider, making the operating system a more customizable experience for everyone.
