Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 setup skips fingerprint scanner step - is it intentional or a bug?

We learned all about Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6 when it was unveiled yesterday at the latest Galaxy Unpacked event. But now that reviewers have started trying out this new foldable device, another strange feature, or bug, has become apparent.

For whatever reason, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 does not prompt for a fingerprint login upon setup; a PIN is still required, but otherwise you can proceed straight to the home screen without being prompted to scan your finger.

In fact, this happened to me personally yesterday when I moved to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 review unit. To make matters worse, it took me several hours to realize that every time I opened the phone, I was logged in with my PIN. I am so slow to notice sometimes...

This scanner skip could be justified as a customizable setting, so that users are not forced to set up fingerprint recognition. Or it could be justified as a way for Samsung to speed up the setup so that users can try out the new features of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 more quickly. However, this is likely a strange error and will likely be corrected by the time the device ships to the general public on July 24.

If the bug is still active at that point and you have already pre-ordered the Galaxy Z Fold 6, don't worry. Simply open the Settings menu, open the Security and Privacy option, and select "Lock Screen" followed by "Fingerprint" to set it manually.
