New "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Video; Original "Karate Kid" Villain Returns

A spin-off of the martial arts film milestone "Karate Kid," "Cobra Chi" features Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio), Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), John Cleese (Martin Cove), Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), and more! and numerous memorable characters from the film franchise. And in addition to these familiar faces, "Cobra Kai" Season 6 will feature another returning character from the Miyagiverse: Mike Burns.

Mike Burns, played by Sean Kanan, was a major antagonist in the 1989 film "Karate Kid Part III," where he was Silver's henchman. Canaan reprised the role last year in the Netflix hit, and is likely to reprise the role in Season 6, with the first five episodes premiering on Thursday, July 18.

(The season will be in three parts, with the second installment to be released on November 28 and the final five episodes in 2025.)

In an exclusive clip released by Entertainment Weekly, Burns reunites with Sensei Daniel and Sensei Johnny to help them choose which students will represent the dojo in a prestigious world competition. Everyone I know who has participated in these competitions has horror stories to tell. This is intense and unpredictable," Barnes warns the young students in a minute-long clip. 'What Sekai Taikai does, I do. I will surprise you all. I will push you to your limits."

When Daniel reminds Mike to "keep things positive," the karate bad boy offers his own warning in response: "You came to me. The deal was my way or the highway."

Canaan revealed to EW exactly how his Season 6 cameo came about, saying, "Johnny and Daniel are kind of at odds over what to name the dojo and who will represent it at the upcoming karate tournament. Daniel comes up with the idea that they need someone who is ostensibly impartial." The big revelation is that Mike Burns was brought in to "select" the team.

But while students should be happy to be mentored by a national champion, Canaan explains, "Barnes makes it clear that for those strong enough to pass the tests he sets, this will be a baptism of fire. 'He thinks outside the box. The karate kids are going to have their work cut out for them!

And apparently, the Miyagi-verse will continue: "Cobra Kai" co-creators John Hurwitz and Josh Heald previously revealed that they are open to more spin-offs and side quests set in the "Karate Kid" universe.

Tom's Guide will keep you updated on the latest news surrounding the sixth season of "Cobra Kai" (including a possible spin-off series), behind the scenes, casting information, and showrunner insights.
