A big debate in parenting circles is when and what technology is appropriate for children as they grow up This is especially true when it comes to cell phones

Apple believes that in order to sell more watches, perhaps parents should opt for a smartwatch like the Apple Watch SE (2022) as a cell phone replacement

The company has released a new web page (shared by 9to5 Mac) extolling the wonders of the Apple Watch and how it can help children and their parents The program is simply called "Apple Watch for Your Kids" and highlights the family setup feature that debuted on the original Apple Watch SE and watchOS 7 software in 2020

The new page is now live and also touts more than a dozen reasons why the Apple Watch is for your kids Features listed include calling, texting, Find My, music streaming, and Apple Cash

One interesting feature is Schooltime, which parents can control from a connected iPhone This feature acts as a sort of Do Not Disturb mode, allowing children to not be distracted by the clock when they should be paying attention to class

Other benefits of the watch highlighted by Apple include its durability - which makes sense, since kids can be pretty rough on their devices - and workout tracking, which seems like overkill for kids

The LTE-connected Apple Watch does not require an iPhone to perform the aforementioned functions, except for the initial setup process iPhone can be used to manage the paired watch, and to use the LTE Apple Watch on a daily basis does not require a phone

To set up the watch, your child must have an account in Apple's iCloud Family Sharing system iCloud Family allows you to select and set up watches for your family The system will guide you from there

Apple's web page introduces the Apple Watch SE 2, the least expensive model in the company's smartwatch line The Apple Watch SE 2 is the least expensive model in Apple's smartwatch series, and is Apple's flagship product It's a sort of "starter" smartwatch that offers most of the features at a lower price: the Apple Watch SE with LTE connectivity starts at $299, and this price can drop during the Apple Watch sale (In fact, there may be an Apple Watch sale during Amazon Prime Day this week)

The web page notes that the Apple Watch Series 4 or later can be used with the Apple Watch for Your Kids program, as long as cellular connectivity is available This includes more recent devices such as the Watch Ultra 2 and Watch Series 9

Apple is rumored to be releasing a new SE model this year, and we may hear about that possibility at the fall event where Apple will unveil its iPhone 16 lineup
