Top 9 New Shows Available This Week on Netflix, Peacock, TV and More (July 15-21)

Summer is sizzling this week with a heat wave of new shows on streaming services like Netflix and Peacock, as well as on broadcast and cable channels.

This week's new show lineup is headlined by "Cobra Kai" Season 6, in which Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence team up to take on the world (karate championship). Also, the Korean hit horror "Sweet Home" and the post-apocalyptic thriller "Snowpiercer" are in their final seasons.

Gladiator spectacular "Those About to Die," period drama "Lady in the Lake," and a docu-series about Simone Biles' journey to the 2024 Summer Olympics will debut. Here are the top new shows to check out this week.

Based on the Marvel Comics series, the animated series will put the titular assassin and his ghost mentor Bryce (voiced by Jason Sudeikis) through more trials and tribulations. The action moves from Tokyo to New York City, where Monkey tries to find a way to escape his life of killing and Bryce tries to repair the damage he did to others while alive. One of them is his estranged daughter Iris (Christine Milioti), who grew up swearing she would never be like her no-good father. The other is Eunice (Leslie Jones), a foul-mouthed former agent. But both Monkey and Bryce soon realize that undoing the past is not easy.

Premieres Monday, July 15 at 12 a.m. ET on Hulu

Kerry Washington's "Unprisoned" returns for a second season with more complex family dynamics. Paige is trying to get back into the dating scene. Her father, Edwin, is still trying to make sense of life outside the cellblock, and her son, Finn (Farley Lakotohavana), misses his father; the three begin consulting a "radical healing coach" (John Stamos) to help them work through their respective issues.

Premieres on Hulu on Wednesday, July 17 at 12 a.m. ET

With the Summer Olympics kicking off next week, this docu-series focuses on one of the world's most famous athletes: Simone Biles. The documentary chronicles her "comeback" after she withdrew from the 2020 Tokyo Games due to mental health issues. Since then, Biles has done the hard work of dealing with past trauma, learning to manage her mental health, and rebuilding her gymnastics game from the ground up. She is ready to make the leap in Paris.

Premieres Wednesday, July 17 at 3 a.m. ET on Netflix

Netflix is now in the habit of splitting seasons of topical shows, splitting "Cobra Kai" season 6 into three parts (with the finale due next year). When the martial arts action drama returns, the Cobra Kai dojo has been banished from the Valley. Sensei and his students must decide if and how they will compete in the world karate tournament, Sekai Taikai. Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) must put aside their long-standing rivalry and team up to face more dangerous threats, including Johnny's former master John Cleese (Martin Cove).

If you often think about the Roman Empire, this is the show for you. Director Roland Emmerich ("Independence Day," "Godzilla") brings the action to the small screen in this historical epic set in the heyday of the Roman Empire, when gladiators entertained the masses. Sir Anthony Hopkins as Emperor Vespasian and Ian Leon from "Game of Thrones" play Tenax, the tenacious underworld ruler. They are just two of the many characters involved in the brutal business of blood and sport. [The story continues with the original Betty (Ana Maria Orozco) and her cast 25 years after the Colombian telenovela "Yo Soy Betty, La Fea" first aired and became a beloved classic. She is on the verge of a divorce from Armando and is also struggling with her relationship with her teenage daughter. Then, at the bequest of her father-in-law, Betty returns to her own clothing empire, Ecomoda, as president. There she reunites with her former colleagues, and as Armando tries to win her back, she encounters difficulties in taking control of the company.

Natalie Portman stars in this thriller set in Baltimore in 1966. The disappearance of a young girl leads to a fateful collision between two women. Maddie Schwartz (Portman) is a Jewish housewife with a secret past who is trying to reinvent herself as an investigative journalist. When Maddy discovers Cleo's body floating in the lake, she becomes obsessed with unraveling her story.

This Korean horror hit returns for a third season of monster mayhem. A showdown looms between humans, monsters, and neo-humans. Hyun-su (Sung-kang) is determined to prevent an all-out war, but chaos breaks out when Sang-wook (Lee Jin-wook) declares a special pardon for symptomatic survivors. An unexpected reunion only heightens the tension: long thought dead, Woonyeok (Lee Do-hyun) has returned as a neo-human. The fate of humanity depends on whether they can find a way forward together.

This post-apocalyptic thriller series takes its final journey in its fourth season. After the earth has turned to frozen ground, the survivors live on a train that is forever in motion. At the end of Season 3, Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) and some passengers stayed in the relative safety of Snowpiercer, while Andre Leighton (Dave Diggs) led his followers aboard the Big Alice to explore the town of New Eden. Nine months later, both groups encounter new enemies led by the ruthless Milius (Clark Gregg).
