Top 5 New Shows Available This Week on Netflix, Max, TV and More (July 1-7)

With July underway, more new shows premiere this week on Netflix, Max, and other streaming services, as well as on broadcast and cable channels.

Sharks are the star of this week's new programming lineup, with NatGeo's "SharkFest" airing all month on cable, Disney Plus, and Hulu, and Discovery's "Shark Week" starting this weekend. It's a great time to be a shark fan.

Also on the schedule is "Sprint," a sports docu-series about elite-level runners, and reruns of the animated "Star Trek: Prodigy." Here are the top new shows to check out this week.

National Geographic has decided that one week of shark-related content is not enough (see below for details on Discovery's annual Shark Week) and has expanded it to a full month. Sharkfest will feature more than 22 hours of original programming and 60 hours of enhanced content on National Geographic, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Mundo, ESPN2, Disney Plus, and Hulu. Highlights include "Shark Beach with Anthony Mackie: Gulf Coast," "Baby Sharks in the City," and "Shark Attack 360."

Premiering Monday, July 1 at 3:00 a.m. ET on Disney Plus and Hulu

The animated children's series returns with a batch of 20 new episodes that follow the six young misfits who make up the crew of the Prodigy. They are assigned a new mission aboard the USS Voyager A to rescue Captain Chakotee (voiced by Robert Beltran) and bring peace to the home world of Gwynn (voiced by Ella Purnell). But plans go awry and a time paradox occurs, putting their future and past in jeopardy. [With the 2024 Paris Olympics fast approaching, now is the perfect time to get a closer look into the world of these elite athletes who aim to be the fastest in the world. This behind-the-scenes documentary series follows the sprinters whose mental toughness is tested as they face the supreme test, hoping to cross the finish line in record time. The episodes will follow the journey of Charli Richardson, Noah Lyles, Shericka Jackson, and others as they prepare for the 2023 World Championships.

Premieres Tuesday, July 2 at 3 a.m. ET on Netflix

There is no such thing as too much shark content. When not tuning into Disney Plus or Hulu's "Sharkfest," you can watch Discovery's annual "Shark Week" event hosted by John Cena.

The shark fest begins with "The Belly of the Beast: Bigger and Bloodier" and includes special programs such as "Shark Frenzy: The Mating Game," "Jaws vs. Leviathan," "Expedition into the Unknown: Sharks vs. Nazi Paradise" and "Great White Shark Danger Zone."
