Apple Forecasts Huge Demand for New iPhone 16 - 100 Million A18 Chips Reportedly Ordered

Apple Forecasts Huge Demand for New iPhone 16 - 100 Million A18 Chips Reportedly Ordered

Every year we have to go through the same old song and dance. So many people want to upgrade to the latest iPhone that Apple can't keep up with demand. So we end up with queues as long as the lines to Disney World on holiday weekends. But Apple is reportedly trying to mitigate the damage.

The China Times reports that Apple's plan is to order a ridiculous number of A18 chips. In fact, Apple is estimated to have ordered between 90 and 100 million units, which will be mass produced using TSMC's 3nm process.

Rumors suggest that all four iPhone 16 models will feature some sort of A18 chipset. So far, however, it is not clear if the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature the more powerful A18 Pro. Unfortunately, it is also not known whether this large order is for the A18, the A18 Pro, or a mix of both.

China Times also claims that all four iPhone 16 models will have 8GB of RAM. Apple has confirmed that RAM is one of the most important factors in Apple Intelligence compatibility. This means that by upgrading the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus from 6GB, AI will no longer be limited to those willing to pay extra for the Pro model.

If all four iPhone 16 models will have the same type of chipset, it makes sense for Apple to order a large quantity of chips. That way, it is far less likely that chip production will be the cause of shipping delays later in the year. This is not to say that other components will not be a problem.

Countless rumors circulated prior to last year's launch that Apple was having trouble sourcing enough tetraprism lenses for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. And while the wait in the months following the launch wasn't too bad, any one problematic component could seriously delay production of the new unit.

Rumors surrounding the A18 chip suggest that iPhone 16 buyers will enjoy very high performance. In fact, one leaker claims that the neural processing unit in this chip is superior to any chip Apple has ever produced.

Can you imagine an iPhone outperforming an iPad or Mac in AI processing? It's enough to make some people upgrade, and it will only increase the strain on production lines.

There are still a few months until the iPhone 16 series is announced at Apple's September event. Until then, stay on top of all the latest news and rumors in the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max hubs.
