Android 15 beta 3.1 has been released.

Beta software is never perfect, and Android 15 is no exception, as Android 15 beta 3 began rolling out last month and advanced the upgrade to the "Platform Stability" stage, but still needed some fixes, Android 15 beta 3.1 has been released.

This is not the biggest update Android 15 has gotten. Especially because Platform Stability means that no more major features are likely to appear. This is because Google has used Beta 3.1 to fix some serious bugs that seem to be affecting a significant number of people.

The biggest bug fix here is for an issue that was causing the lock screen to accidentally prompt users to try to unlock their phone every time they touch the screen. Even if they were trying to do what they could while locked. While this may not be a security risk, this is a real nerve-wracking issue.

The update should also fix the issue that was causing biometric face unlock to sometimes fail, as well as other unnamed issues affecting system stability, connectivity, and audio quality. Beta users are encouraged to install the new update as soon as possible.

Android 15 beta 3.1 has already started rolling out and showed up on my Pixel 8a. If you have a device registered for the beta, especially a Pixel, go to Settings to install the update. Otherwise, Android will automatically install the update at some point in the next four days.

The update itself isn't huge, just inside of 64MB. But phone updates can take a while to download and install, so you'll need to make sure your phone has enough power - and be patient enough to let your phone do its thing in the background.

Google has not confirmed when Android 15 will be released to the public. However, the next wave of Google Pixel phones is scheduled to be announced on August 13, so we can expect Android 15 to hit other Pixel phones around that time. If you're not sure what the upgrade entails, here's a list of Android 15 features that will be available on Android phones.
