Two hidden upgrades were made to the Weather app in iOS 18.

More hidden features of iOS 18 have been discovered by users trying out the developer beta.

The first of these is a change to the temperature display settings: in the screenshot shared by 9to5Mac, the actual temperature is shown at the top of the Weather app as usual, but the app now also displays "Feels like" temperatures just below, taking into account the impact of wind speed and humidity on the temperature

The app now also displays the "Feels like" temperature just below the "Temperature" temperature.

In Apple Weather, this number was already displayed when scrolling down the page. However, it is common for other weather apps to display them at the top, so it is good that Apple is learning from them.

However, Apple gave iOS a little extra sauce to make this feature more unique. The weather app only displays "Feels like" if there is a significant difference between the actual temperature and the weather. This should reduce the clutter of the weather app's main interface in most cases, but it should rely on the app's algorithm to know when to tell the difference.

Another newly discovered change in the weather app is that home and work locations are now automatically added to the tracked locations by being read from the contact card. This is useful if there is a large distance between where you live and where you work, and also automatically updates if you move homes or jobs (assuming you update your contacts first).

These changes should apply not only to iOS 18, but also to iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia; the introduction of Apple Intelligence, new iPhone home screen customization options, automatic equation solving in Math Notes, Mac iPhone mirroring on the Mac, etc., these are definitely not as good as some of the more spectacular changes. However, at least considering how often I use the "Weather" app, I can imagine that this change could actually have the most impact of anything Apple has introduced to its software this year.

iOS 18 should enter a more accessible public beta in the coming weeks, but its full launch is scheduled for this fall. It will likely debut with the iPhone 16 series and should appear in September, just like previous iPhones.
