Google Maps for iPhone is about to get a long-awaited driving upgrade.

Getting below the speed limit while driving using Google Maps may soon become very easy on the iPhone as on-screen speedometers begin to appear to certain users.

This speedometer has been spotted by autoevolution and its readers in both the iOS and CarPlay versions of Google Maps.

Because it uses GPS data, this speedometer may be more accurate than car speedometers.

While this feature is already available in some Android versions of Google Maps, the availability of this feature in the iOS and CarPlay versions of Google Maps is exciting news for Apple users who can currently only see the current road speed limit while driving. Exciting news.

Not to stick with Google Maps, but if you want a speedometer in your navigation app right now, Waze offers both iPhone and Android users a way to get real-time speed information in their Maps app.

Apple Maps, like Google Maps for most users, can only display speed limits. However, thanks to iOS 18, Apple Maps is becoming more useful when out of the car, including topographic maps, predefined and custom hiking routes.

It is unfortunate that Google Maps speedometer is currently only available on a limited basis, with one Reddit user claiming that he could only find the speedometer on one of the two iPhones he owns. However, we do not know how long it will take for this feature to be fully rolled out, but once it arrives on everyone's device, this will be a very welcome upgrade.

At the Made by Google event on August 13, Google will probably talk a bit about updates to Google Maps and other popular apps in between the rumored Pixel 9 series and Pixel Watch 3 announcements.
