Newly leaked information from back-end code hints at Apple's smart home potential, with the company reportedly working on a new HomePod speaker system, a new Apple TV, and a mysterious "Home Accessory" device
The code discovered by MacRumors reveals a device identified as "HomeAccessory 17,1," an entirely new identifier category in Apple's code This identifier is similar to the HomePod being called "AudioAccessory" on the back end
Earlier this week, another code leak revealed five new iPhone 16 devices (four iPhone 16s and a future iPhone SE 4) As we learned then, the numbers indicate which chipset will be in the devices and which number they will fill in the lineup
For example, the code "iPhone 17,1" refers to the iPhone 16, which will feature the new A18 chipset
From this new code, we can infer that the "HomeAccessory" devices Apple is working on will also have an A18 processor and run on a version of tvOS that may be the rumored homeOS homePod Mini and HomePod 2 are already running on tvOS
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports rumors that Apple is developing a version of HomePod with an "iPad-like" display At the same time, another leak shows a HomePod with a smaller, built-in LCD display Whether these leaks are related to this mysterious "HomeAccessory" remains to be seen
Apparently, two Apple TV models were also spotted in the code The models are called AppleTV 14,4 and AppleTV 14,5 Apple has not released a new Apple TV device since 2022, and there were rumors that a new box would be announced at WWDC this June That did not happen, as Apple instead focused on Apple Intelligence
However, Apple may reveal a new Apple TV set at the next Apple event this September, where it will unveil the iPhone 16 and the new Apple Watch Series 10
