"Fine print"

Hi Stands fans: Well, that was tough. It doesn't help that I know next to nothing about fashion (as anyone who has seen me will attest), but the theme, "fine print," was also ill-advised and misleading. Maybe it was the editor in me, but I was drawn to thinking about fonts, typing, legal documents, and grammar.

Nothing of the sort, and after getting a lot of words wrong, I built up quite a tip bank. Eventually, I gave in and the game highlighted the anagram "ATRNAT" in the top corner.

But when I realized it was TARTAN, I stayed away. Of course, it was about pattern printing! With that knowledge, finding the spangram was easy.

Splitting the spangram into two was very helpful and, to be honest, ensured that I could find words with which I was not very familiar. ARGYLE was first seen in the lower right corner, followed by STRIPES to the left of it. CHEVRON now completed the bottom half of the board.

The top section was a bit more difficult as the two answers intertwined with each other. I finally solved PAISLEY, but it was MAHGNG that needed to be deciphered. Thankfully, my brain woke up from its slumber playing "Animal Crossing" and remembered that there is such a thing as gingham.

It was hard work. Hopefully tomorrow's Strands will be one of my favorite themes. ......
