My most anticipated Netflix film of the year scored 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Since its festival debut in September 2023, I have been keeping my eye on His Three Daughters. After months of waiting for a release date, the Azazel Jacobs-directed drama will be released on Netflix later this year.

"His Three Daughters" will premiere on Netflix on Friday, September 20, 2024. However, in some cinemas it will be released a few weeks earlier, on September 6, 2024. This is a common practice for Netflix's prestigious original films, as they need a theatrical release in order to be nominated for awards such as the Academy Awards.

Described as "a tense, captivating and moving portrait of family dynamics," the film stars Carrie Coon, Elizabeth Olsen and Natasha Lyonne as three estranged sisters who reunite to care for their father when his health deteriorates. Azazel Jacobs not only directed, but also wrote and produced the drama.

There are many reasons to be excited about this Netflix film ahead of its September debut. His Three Daughters premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews. While this is based on a relatively small sample size of 23 reviews, it is a strong indicator of its quality.

Robert Daniels of Screen International described the film as "a heartbreaking plunge into sisterhood and grief" and "an intensely composed elegy about the devastating effects of saying goodbye." Jordan Hoffman of The Messenger called it "a humble masterpiece." John Frosch of The Hollywood Reporter called it "a sharp and tender story of sisterhood under duress."

With such critical acclaim, coupled with a stellar cast featuring three of my favorite actors, it's no wonder my anticipation levels soared. The Three Daughters looks to be a strong contender for best Netflix movie of 2024."

At this point, after hearing great initial reviews of the film, you are probably eager to see the first trailer for Three Daughters. Unfortunately, as of this writing, no official trailer for the film has been released. In fact, details beyond a rough outline of the core plot and a cast list are fairly thin.

As noted above, Carrie Coon, Elizabeth Olsen, and Natasha Lyonne are slated to play siblings who are reunited after their father's health deteriorates, but we will have to wait and see these three in their roles for the first time. However, based on reviews and the trio's performances to date, we are confident that this will be a special Netflix original.

Netflix already has an original hit in 2024, "The Hitman," starring Glen Powell. The comedic thriller has captivated critics and subscribers alike, but "Three Daughters" could be a serious contender for the title of best new Netflix film of 2024. The drama is also a strong contender for awards, and expect to hear much more about "Three Daughters" in the coming months.

While we wait for "Three Daughters" to arrive on Netflix in September, there are plenty of films available to stream right now, including some of my favorite drama films of the past five years that just appeared on the popular streaming service last week.
