5 Best Netflix Movies to Watch Now Before They're Released This Month

Netflix's movie library is constantly shifting, and June 2024 is no exception. This month is packed with must-see new releases, but at the cost of a few older films that are saying goodbye to the streaming service.

Particularly disappointing is that not one, not two, but five films in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series are leaving, along with a fascinating historical drama, a thriller starring Denzel Washington, and Quentin Tarantino's best film (and sequel). Netflix certainly loses some big titles but there is still time before they are removed.

These are the five movies set to leave Netflix at the end of the month that you should be watching right now. And here's a roundup of new Netflix movies to see what will be delivered in their place.

"The Imitation Game" is another World War II drama worth watching, though not as epic as "Oppenheimer" (which was just added to rival streamer Amazon Prime Video this week). Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing, a highly intelligent man who leads a group of highly intelligent people on a mission to decipher German codes in Bletchley Park, England.

As the team struggles to crack the German codes used to send hidden messages, Turing creates an early precursor to modern computers and forms a close bond with Cambridge graduate Joan Clarke ( He formed a deep bond with Keira Knightley. Most impressively, The Imitation Game strikes the perfect balance between being an outstanding character study of a truly brilliant man and a deeply engaging wartime thriller that engages the viewer from the outset.

The Elm Street franchise is one of my guilty pleasures. Some, like Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, are utterly bizarre. But I'll always stand by the first one: 1984's A Nightmare on Elm Street built a horror dynasty for good reason, and to this day remains a delightfully chilling horror film that mixes scares with pulpy fun.

In this classic Wes Craven film, teenagers are haunted in their sleep by Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), an ugly man with a knife in his finger. However, they soon discover that Freddy is not only robbing the teenagers of their beauty sleep, but also that they do not wake up at all when he kills them in their dreams. Soon, Nancy (Heather Langenkamp), one of the distressed teenagers, discovers that a dark secret buried in the past is the key to unraveling Freddy's motives. It is also Johnny Depp's film debut.

Normally, one would not combine multiple films into a single entry in a list like this, but Quentin Tarantino has made a name for himself with Kill Bill and Kill Bill Vol: Vol. 1 and Kill Bill: The Most Quentin Tarantino, one of the greatest directors of all time, has made two films, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2. My favorite is Vol. 1, but both films ooze style, and once you see the first one, you'll want to stream the second one immediately.

In "Kill Bill," a retired hitman called The Bride (Uma Thurman) awakens from a coma after a plot by her former colleagues, led by the eponymous Bill, brings her impending wedding to a bloody end. The vengeful bride sets out on a journey to bring those responsible for the incident to a bloody end. Tarantino's love letter to martial arts cinema, "Kill Bill" is all about style, and while it lacks the narrative of the filmmaker's best work, its nonlinear structure is innovative.

One of my most vivid childhood memories is watching "Inside Man" on late night TV. Not only was it past my bedtime, but I was still too young for this twisted crime thriller. Even if I didn't fully appreciate the intricacies of the plot, I was equally enthralled. Re-watching the film as an adult, I can confirm that it is a nail-biter, with Denzel Washington's best performance at its core.

In "Inside Man," Washington plays Keith Frazier, a New York detective who finds himself negotiating with a Manhattan bank robbery ring led by Dalton Russell (Clive Owen). While the criminal masterminds believe they have engineered the perfect heist, Frazier believes he holds all the cards. Further complicating matters is the enigmatic power broker, Madeline (Jodie Foster), who adds her own agenda to the volatile mix.

When you put Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and director Adam McKay together, the result is sure to be hilarious: Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is is a treasure trove of quips, as is the trio's most famous film, Step Brothers. It is the type of comedy that requires periodic pauses to catch one's breath between jokes.

Set in the world of high-speed NASCAR racing, Ricky Bobby (Ferrell) is a superstar, but when French champion Jean Girard (Sacha Baron Cohen) starts climbing the podium for Bobby's title, his status as the top racer on the track threatened. With the support of his loyal best friend (John C. Reilly), Ricky Bobby needs to get out of his corner and regain his reputation as the best racer.
