Since February, Elon Musk has gradually teased a collaboration between Grok (an intelligent chatbot created by Musk's xAI and available on social platform X) and Midjourney
If this is successful, Midjourney's powerful image generation capabilities will be integrated directly into Grok Currently, X users are finding evidence in Grok's source code that further solidifies the idea of this partnership
While information is scarce and no official confirmation has been posted by either Midjourney or X, the developer news service TestingCatalog News has found a reference to "Midjourney" in the Grok source code posted on Github
While there are many criticisms of AI-powered social content, having a chatbot that can generate multiple social media posts on any topic using simple prompts remains a lucrative concept for influencers and businesses alike
Grokkovic, et al
Grok already does that, but with the addition of Midjourney, it can also generate high-quality visuals to support these social media posts
Using different AI models to create the visuals is not that different from what is being prompted by the respective chatbots, although OpenAI, Google, and Meta each use specific AI image generation models
In February 2024, Musk was participating in an X Spaces conversation when a user called MishaFitton asked him if Midjourney was coming to X anytime soon 'We're in interesting discussions with Midjourney,' Mask replied 'One way or another, we're going to enable AI generation on this platform [X]'
Not surprisingly Elon Musk often shares similar views with Midjourney founder David Holtz, and the two have publicly supported each other's claims and predictions on social media and at conferences, given that Grok does not have its own AI image generation capabilities, API integration with Midjourney could benefit both platforms
On June 20, 2024, an AI-focused media outlet called TestingCatalog News found something in the source code of a standalone version of Grok on GitHub; TestingCatalog posted on X's social accounts, "X and Midjourney partnership seems to be in the works," he wrote A snippet from Grok's source code clearly showing the word "midjourney" followed
Later, in another post, TestingCatalog wrote: "To add some more context: this is now present in the code of the standalone version of Grok" This happened in time for the full release of Grok 15
A partnership between Grok and Midjourney seems likely given recent events, but nothing has been officially announced by either company It is not unnatural for such a thing to be kept under the lid until the last moment, but any predictions at this point may be speculative
