Forget Xbox Streaming Dongles - Game Pass Comes to Fire TV Stick

The rumored Xbox Keystone dongle was canceled last year, but Microsoft is now offering gamers the next best thing through a new partnership with Amazon.

As part of this collaboration, gamers will be able to play the best games from the Xbox Series X on their TVs without a console; simply connect a Fire TV Stick 4K Max or Fire TV Stick 4K to the back of their TV and play the latest Xbox games via the cloud via the cloud.

In addition to a new Fire TV Stick, a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription are required. You can use a standard Xbox controller, but since Amazon's Fire TV is Android-based, many great PC game controllers will also work.

Xbox games on Amazon Fire TV will be available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers in 25 countries at launch, but more countries may be added in the future. Similarly, while the initial launch will be limited to Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Stick 4K, the Xbox app may be offered on other Fire TV devices and Amazon's own Fire TV Omni lineup in the future.

A deal with Amazon to bring Xbox games to Fire TV makes a lot of sense, especially given the recent success of Prime Video's Fallout TV series. The Game Pass Ultimate allows users to play all the latest Fallout games, including Fallout 76 and Fallout 4.

To start playing Xbox games on your Fire TV, you must first download and install the Xbox app on your Fire TV device. From there, if you have subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you will need to sign in with your Microsoft account.

To play games, you will need to connect a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller. According to a Microsoft press release, the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, Playstation DualSense, and DualShock 4 are all compatible with the Xbox app right out of the box.

However, if you want a consistent frame rate and a lag-free experience, you may want to consider upgrading to the best mesh Wi-Fi system if you don't already have one. There are many great mesh routers on this list, but if you have an Amazon device in addition to your Fire TV Stick, we recommend Amazon's eero router.

The eero 6+ is reasonably priced at $299 for a pack of three, and the eero Pro 6E makes more sense if you have a device that can take advantage of Wi-Fi 6E's faster 6Ghz band. There is also the eero Max 7 with Wi-Fi 7, which is a good choice for those who want a future-proof home network, but keep in mind that Amazon has yet to release a Fire TV Stick that supports the latest wireless standards. But keep in mind that Amazon has not yet released a Fire TV Stick that supports the latest wireless standards. Also, with Prime Day just around the corner, all of these eero mesh routers are likely to receive steep discounts like they did last year.

Not only is it convenient to play the latest Xbox games on your Fire TV, but it's also much cheaper than upgrading to an Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X.
