The release date for "Slow Horse" Season 4 is finally set - and it's coming sooner than you think.

The silence regarding the release date for "Slow Horses" Season 4 has been incredibly painful, especially since it is one of my favorite shows on Apple TV Plus (and in general). Today, however, that silence has ended, as the streamer has finally announced a release date for Season 4. That's right, "Slow Horses" now has an air date.

This must-see thriller series follows a group of British agents who are downgraded to a remote MI5 location known as the Slow House. The agents, known as "slow horses," are led by Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), a short-tempered, often acerbic veteran agent who has himself been banished to the Slow House. Despite being demoted and assigned to seemingly menial tasks, the "slow horses" are often involved in dangerous espionage activities.

"Slow Horse" Season 4 is officially based on Mick Herron's 2017 novel "Spook Street," which is the fourth in the Slow House series. In Season 3, David Cartwright (Jonathan Pryce) shows early signs of dementia, which becomes a major concern; in Spook Street, River (Jack Lowden) struggles between his grandfather's deteriorating mental health and the tragic bombing that took so many lives. Season 4 promises to be intense and emotional. This is because the teaser trailer for Season 4 reveals that one of Lam's team members has died.

We will find out who that is when "Slow Horse" Season 4 is released on September 4. That means we will have to wait a little over two more months.

Specific plot details for "Slow Horses" Season 4 have not been officially announced, but it is likely that the new season will continue to draw from Herron's acclaimed book "Spook Street."

As noted above, there will be a major focus on David Cartwright, River's grandfather and a retired MI5 officer. The plot revolves around David's personal crisis, and River and the rest of the Slow House may be drawn into a dangerous situation involving old enemies and hidden secrets.

There are also loose ends from the season 3 finale that will need to be addressed in the upcoming season: Ingrid Tierney's (Sophie Okonedo) leadership at MI5 was exposed when River leaked key documents, and several dubious activities, including a murder revealed. By the end, Diana Tavanagh (Kristin Scott Thomas) has risen through the ranks to replace the disgraced Tierney as MI5 director and assume the role of First Desk.

Season 4's sneak peek also featured more juicy drama when a bomb explodes in London and both MI5 and Slow Horse are called in to investigate. River is held at gunpoint by a new antagonist, Frank Harkness (Hugo Weaving). The trailer ends with Jackson Lamb's ominous words: "One of the team is dead."

More details will be revealed when the official trailer for season 4 is released. For now, we can wait while watching the best shows like "Slow Horses". After all, "Slow Horses" is the best show you haven't seen, and that's a fact.
