Additional plans coming to YouTube Premium in the future - more features to come!

If you subscribe to YouTube Premium, you can currently choose from three monthly plans: a $14 individual plan, a $23 family plan, and an $8 student plan. The last plan is, of course, exclusively for college students. But that may change now that Google has confirmed that there will be more YouTube Premium plans.

The news was announced in a community blog post. Google said it is "committed to providing more plan choices to our members. As part of that commitment, it said it will expand its services to more regions and "introduce new plans and explore ways to share benefits with friends in the future."

Google did not provide details, so we do not know the pricing of these plans or details about the types of features offered. The note about sharing benefits with friends sounds like it could suggest something like Spotify's Duo tier.

This would be ideal for people who are happy to share monthly payments but don't want to have to recruit extra people to share family plans. It would also be nice if Google removed all ads and offered something cheaper that didn't offer so many premium features; many people could live without features like downloads if they had uninterrupted access to YouTube videos and music for a cheaper price! .

Given that even more premium features will be offered, it makes sense for Google to offer a simpler, less lavish subscription option.

Google also confirmed that YouTube Premium itself will be upgraded with entirely new features and experiences. Among these features are the ability to watch YouTube Shorts in picture-in-picture mode and an AI-powered tool that allows users to jump from the video preface to the main feature.

There are already third-party YouTube clients that can do exactly that, and it's time for Google to bring it to its official app. The feature is already available to Android premium members in the U.S. and will launch on iOS "in the coming weeks."

In addition to these two useful additions, Google is offering early access to experimental features to its premium members. These features include new smart downloads of short YouTube movies. There is also a redesigned Watch page to improve the viewing experience and make it easier to find new content and comment sections.

Arguably the biggest experimental feature is the addition of conversational AI to Android phones in the US. This is like a chatbot, which will answer questions and suggest relevant content without interrupting the video playback. Just tap the "Ask" button at the bottom of the video.
