Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, possible design refresh - here's what we know

If recent leaks are to be believed, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could get design cues from a surprising source. Recent leaks have revealed several details about the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

According to prominent tipster IceUniverse, the S25 Ultra will have a body thickness of 8.4mm, making it Samsung's thinnest Ultra model since the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra's overall thickness of 8.1mm.

Interestingly, IceUniverse doubled down on previous leaks that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be more rounded than other models, saying it will be as rounded as the 2016 Galaxy Note 7. However, there is no mention of bringing back the curved screen, and Samsung appears to have officially backed away from that design choice.

Some younger readers may not remember the Galaxy Note 7, but that's not too surprising, as Samsung has been trying to distance itself from the device over the past few years. While the device offered some great features, such as improved support for the S Pen and the best camera at the time, it also had one major problem. Samsung officially recalled the phone in 2016 due to a fatal design flaw that caused the battery to overheat and in some cases explode. Thankfully, Samsung does not appear to be planning to include that particular design in its next Ultra model. [For example, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will likely retain the reduced telephoto lens that caused so many complaints with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but the output of the new lens is likely to be significantly improved to 50MP. One rumor claims that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, while another claims that it will introduce the latest MediaTek in certain markets.

While Samsung's adoption of a more curved design is not necessarily a bad thing, comparisons to the Note 7 may be a concern for the company. However, we won't know for sure until the official announcement, which is expected to take place early next year.

Until then, let's keep an eye on our Galaxy S25 Ultra hub.
