macOS Sequoia streamlines downloads from the Mac App Store.

macOS 15, aka Sequoia, is bringing some great features to Apple's lineup, but one important change was revealed in a recent patch note.

Announced at Apple's recent WWDC event, macOS Sequoia brings new features such as iPhone mirroring and a new Passwords app, but this update also brings free storage when downloading apps from the Mac App Store requirements are also being relaxed. This will considerably reduce the overall stress of adding larger apps and games.

Currently, the App Store requires twice as much free space in storage as the app the user is trying to download. So, for example, to download a 1GB app, you need 2GB of free space on your computer. This is a big problem for someone trying to download a game.

According to the macOS 15 beta 2 release notes, "The App Store no longer requires twice the free space for the initial app download and installation. The free space required will be the final app install size plus a small buffer. Developers should consider this change in their messaging regarding size requirements."

This new feature joins other features Apple has introduced to make the Mac a better gaming system. For example, WWDC showed off how "Assassin's Creed Shadows" looks on the Mac and iPad. We were intrigued, to be sure. And we couldn't help but notice Apple's recent game sale for the Mac.

macOS 15 also brings other significant changes with the introduction of Apple Intelligence. Apple's new AI allows users to easily generate text when writing emails and notes, which is a big help for a haphazard typist like myself. This AI can also generate images when speaking or taking notes.

macOS 15 is a big upgrade, and small features tend to fall through the cracks. But if you have a compatible Mac and enjoy playing odd games on your computer, this is a feature to get excited about. For more information, read more about the new features coming to macOS Sequoia.
