DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro Leak Could Get GoPro's Attention

DJI's action camera line has long been a great alternative to GoPro. Released last year, the DJI Osmo Action 4 came with powerful features and a lower price than GoPro's Hero12 Black.

And as discovered by our friends at Tech Radar, the Action 4 appears to be getting a Pro-level sequel; over on X, regular drone leaker Quadro News revealed the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro.

Not much info, but the new Action Cam was spotted on the website of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), which regulates high-tech in the United Arab Emirates.

What we have is a model number, AC004, which Quadro News gave as the model number and said would be "something interesting besides a DJI drone." own regarding the DJI Air 3S, the most highly anticipated drone since the Air 2S launched in 2021. It likely refers to leaks. However, with a ban on the sale of DJI drones still going through Congress, we may not see it when it goes on sale in the US.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 3, introduced late last year, had a 1-inch CMOS sensor, so this is a possible direction for DJI.

Generally, the Pro tag means that the device has more features and upgrades than the mainline model. However, due to a lack of information, it is not possible to speculate whether DJI plans to release a Pro or baseline model of the Osmo Action 5.

This would be the first time DJI has used the Pro name for its products.

Several commentators were hoping for a 1-inch sensor in the Action 5, which would be an upgrade over the Action 4's 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor; they were disappointed with the Insta360 Ace Pro's Leica lens, which is 8K capable, whereas the Action 4 supports up to 4K. Even the recently released Insta360 X4 supports 8K.

In keeping with the Pro's naming convention, DJI will need to enhance the Osmo Action 4's rather good specs.

We would like to see improved battery life for the rumored camera; the Action 4 was only capable of 80 minutes of mixed shooting. Also, the Action 4 needs better cooling, as we found that it overheats quickly if not in a cool environment.

Pros also mean that they are usually more expensive. The Action 3 and Action 4 were easy to recommend because they are less expensive than GoPro action cameras, but offer great features; the Action 4 was priced at $399, but the Osmo Action 5 Pro will be priced higher, probably closer to GoPro is expected to be similar to the GoPro.
