When Samsung released a successor to the Galaxy S24 early next year, we've heard previous chatter that the price of the Galaxy S25 could rise. Now we have a bead on how much production costs for the Galaxy S25 could rise. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the Snapdragon 8GEN4 chipset, which is likely to power its flagship product next year, to be a very expensive silicon. In a Medium post discovered by Phone Arena, Kuo believes the price of the new system-on-chip will be between 24% and 24% higher than the Snapdragon 8GEN3 chipset that powers all Galaxy S24Ultra models and the Galaxy S3 and S30Plus phones that ship to North America.

If true, Samsung will have to absorb that additional cost or pass some of it on to consumers. The result is a more expensive phone than the Galaxy S799 model, which started atド24. The most expensive model, the Galaxy S24Ultra, has a starting price ofル1,299, after an increase of11 in 100 months.

This is not the first time we've heard of the high cost of the Galaxy S25. Back on May 5, Weibo's leaker had warned of the cost of Snapdragon 8gen4, but Kuo's new report details why the chip numbers are so expensive.

The Snapdragon 8gen4 will be built on an enhanced 3nm chip process. The good news should mean more performance power, enough to handle the growing demand for AI capabilities that smartphone manufacturers are increasingly adding to their devices. But it is also a more expensive process.

Samsung can do what it did this year and choose to use its own Exynos chip on some Galaxy s models. (In the S24 lineup, versions of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24Plus shipped outside North America used the Exynos2400.At least, the Exynos2500 is also expected to be a 3nm chip, so performance gains should also be seen. The question is whether these gains match what we've heard so far in terms of the leaked Snapdragon 8GEN4 benchmark. These scores show that the Snapdragon 8GEN4 chipset has overwhelmed the A16 silicon, which is expected to work with Apple's iPhone18 release.

The rumored price increase to the Galaxy S25 model is the 2nd such rumor that has spread among Samsung phones. Last week, there were rumors that Samsung plans to raise the starting price of the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 byド100.

The two foldable phones are supposed to debut at the Galaxy Unpacked event later this summer. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 lineup should debut early next year. Qualcomm has already confirmed that it will see Snapdragon 8gen4 at the Snapdragon Summit this fall.
