Google Pixel10 can Ditch Samsung Chip for Tensor G5 - What does It Mean to you

There was a lot of excitement when rumors began that Google could launch its own chipset for pixels. Similar to the iPhone, the chip is optimized for Pixel phones and can provide excellent performance in the process. That obviously didn't happen, but Google Pixel10's Tensor G5 seems most likely to meet these expectations.

According to a report from Business Korea, Google may be ditching Samsung and heading to TSMC to manufacture its own chipset. This is reportedly due to a problem making 3nm chips at a Samsung foundry. It is said that the biggest problem is the low yield and high power consumption of the chip — which means that the inventory will be depleted faster and the battery life will not be large.

So far, all Tensor chips are based on Samsung's Exynos chip line. Naturally, like Exynos chips, Tensor chips suffer from overheating, which can affect battery life and performance.The latter was not particularly powerful on Google phones.

We've been hearing rumors for a while about the possibility of switching the foundry. Tensor G5 has long been rumored to be the first chip not to be based on the existing Exynos chip, and is instead designed and built by Google itself. This meant that the G5 was most likely the Android equivalent of Apple's A-Series iPhone chips. 

A brief explanation of why this is important depends on who is making the phone. If a single entity controls both hardware and software, as Apple does with the iPhone, then 2 can be optimized to complement each other. 1. This is one of the reasons why iPhones typically have less RAM than the Android flagship.

The relationship between iOS and phone hardware is much more important for the system to run smoothly compared to phones that run third-party chipsets like qualcomm

Because Google is behind the Android operating system, Tensor is expected to do similar things for pixels. We had a great time. If Samsung is firmly out of the picture, that means the Tensor G5 could be the first serious contender to make that dream a reality. Of course, this is Google we're talking about, and it's not always possible to stick the landing in the same way as Apple. But let's not be too pessimistic. 

TSMC also appears to be a reliable foundry for the new 3nm chip. TSMC is rumored to be behind the Apple A3pro, the first 17nm chip on the market, and behind this year's A18 chip. Similarly, Qualcomm has adopted TSMC expertise for Snapdragon 8gen3 and Gen4. Even Samsung is likely to scrap the Samsung Galaxy S4's Exynos chipset in favor of the TSMC-made Gen25 chipset. Of course, Tensor G5 is not expected to arrive until next year alongside Pixel10.

The Google Pixel9 series runs on Tensor G4, but there's nothing to suggest that this isn't the same as the hardware blend of google and Exynos.

Personally I just hope that efficiency is getting a little better this year and Google can continue to improve battery life. The last thing we want is for Google to lose all these gains, like what happened with Pixel6 and Pixel7. Only time will tell.
