Let me be frank: I was never a fan of Rebel Moon. I gave Zack Snyder's film a chance and tried to keep an open mind, but I just couldn't get into it. I had trouble reading through "Child of Fire," and I wasn't too impressed with "Scar Giver," which was released in April.

Indeed, it seems I'm not the only one on this hill. A quick look at the pages of Rotten Tomatoes for "Child of Fire" and "Scar Giver" shows that they have been heavily criticized by critics and viewers alike. The critical and audience scores for "Child of Fire" are 21% and 57%, respectively, while the sequels are 15% and 48%, respectively. Even if the film has fans, these numbers do not make it a "must-see" film.

Given the fairly polarizing reactions to both "Rebel Moon" films, one might be surprised why the film is getting a second push. As Tudam explains, the alternate version was part of the production process from the beginning, and the crew even shot new scenes intended solely for these extended R-rated cuts. Thanks to a recent announcement, we now know the title of the new cut of Rebel Moon, which will be available exclusively on Netflix beginning August 2.

In a post to X (formerly Twitter), Snyder released some new images of the film and said that the director's cut of Rebel Moon is "Chapter 1: The Blood Chalice" and "Chapter Two: The Curse of Forgiveness."

A Netflix release described the new "Treason Moon" cuts as "viciously sexy and more bloody," confirming that they will offer viewers the opportunity to dive even deeper into the lore of Snyder's science fiction world.

With any luck, these new takes will be of some length to address some of the problems with the original PG-13 "Rebel Moon" cut. However, one cannot shake the feeling that these new chapters may just contain more mindless slow-motion sequences without addressing the tedious storyline at its core.
