HTC Re-establishes Smartphone Credibility with AI-Powered Camera Phone?

HTC has been completely overshadowed on the smartphone scene, but mid-range models like the recently announced HTC U24 Pro may be the catalyst that brings the company's devices back into the limelight.

The HTC U24 Pro boasts three rear cameras: a 50MP main camera with 4K support, an 8MP wide-angle shooter, and a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. On the front, there is a third 50MP sensor useful for selfies.

But it's not the camera hardware that caught our attention, but rather the AI features HTC is including in its camera app. For example, there is a group photo feature similar to the Best Take feature introduced in Google's Pixel 8, which allows users to swap different faces to get the best group photo; HTC U24Pro users can also add AR stickers to images and videos with simple hand gestures with a simple hand gesture. Compared to the HTC U23 Pro, the AI also corrects blurring and exposure and improves brightness in dark environments.

As for the HTC U24 Pro itself, it has a large 6.8-inch screen with 3D curved glass, a 4,600mAh battery that promises to last a while on a charge, and 60W fast wired charging is available when you need to refuel. It also supports wireless charging and has a reverse charging feature that transfers power to other devices with wireless charging.

A Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 system-on-chip runs the show in the HTC U24 Pro, and while it is not as powerful as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in Android flagships, still 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage you get solid performance enhanced by.

It seems unlikely that the HTC U24 Pro will be available in the US. However, for £469, UK users can get a phone in the same price range as the Pixel 8a and Galaxy A55; if the U24 Pro can keep pace with these phones, HTC will not be long put off in the cell phone market.
