'Bridgerton' Season 3 Finale, Shonda Rhimes Tears Up

'Bridgerton' Season 3 Finale, Shonda Rhimes Tears Up

From stirring declarations of love to tragic family loss, the world of "Bridgerton" has tugged at old heartstrings through two Netflix original seasons and the prequel spin-off "Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story" We've tugged at the heartstrings. And the emotional second half of "Bridgerton" Season 3 (the final four episodes are now available on Netflix) will have fans of the Regency-era romantic drama reaching for the tissues, executive producer Shonda Rhimes has announced.

Rhimes, who recently confirmed that she is "committed" to adapting all eight "Bridgeman" films for Netflix, told The Hollywood Reporter about the second half of season three. Regarding what fans can expect from the final episode of the season, particularly the friend-to-lover romance between Colin Bridlington (Luke Newton) and Penelope Fetherington (Nicola Coughlan), Rhimes did not get into specifics, but called the episode "sexy" and "touching." He described it as.

"We're very secretive about it, but I will say it's sexy and amazing in a lot of ways," Rhimes told the outlet. 'And I cried at the end of it. I don't always cry. I don't always cry. I think it's a beautiful story."

"Bridgerton" fans will be hoping that the long-awaited reveal of Lady Whistledown will bring some anger later in the season, as drama is bound to ensue between Colin and Penn. In a major departure from "Romancing Mister Bridgerton" by author Julia Quinn, at this point the gentleman from Bridgerton does not yet know that his fiancée is actually the most notorious gossip-monger in the ton. Rimes previously revealed that the reveal of Lady Whistledown has accelerated the timeline of "Bridgerton," causing the producers to skip Benedict Bridgerton's story from volume 4 and move the "Pollin" relationship forward to season 3.

But despite the emotional nature of the season's end, star Nicola Coughlan also recently teased that there will be plenty of "giddy" times ahead for Colin and Penelope in the highly anticipated final episode. She told The Hollywood Reporter last month: "I love episodes 5 and 6, where they have a dizzying, giddy time. The best part of the show is when you see people really loving each other and being blissfully happy."

Their "blissfully happy" moments include that infamous steamy mirror scene adapted from "Romancing Mr. Bridgerton" (who knew!) ) and the overly passionate love scene, which Coughlan revealed that he and Newton actually broke a piece of furniture during filming.

Tom's Guide will keep you up to date on all things related to the second half of "Bridgerton" Season 3, including new clips, behind-the-scenes tidbits, touching moments, and more. (Speaking of which, it would be wise to buy a few extra boxes of tissues in preparation for the new episodes.) Until then, you can re-watch the show's first two seasons and the first half of season 3 by subscribing to Netflix.
