Top 10 Hulu Movies - Here are 3 worth watching now

Hulu has quickly become one of the best streaming services due to its extensive library. The platform's collection spans everything from action franchises to blockbusters to pure horror. But with such a vast selection, finding the perfect movie to watch over the weekend often feels like searching for a needle in a haystack.

To make your movie-watching decisions a little easier, we searched Hulu's top 10 trending movies and picked three that are actually worth watching. Also, many of the ones on this list you've already seen, so there are some recommendations from me as well.

These movies promise to be great entertainment and are perfect for your next movie marathon or cozy night out. Without further ado, here are Hulu's top 10 films to stream.

This is based on the Hulu Top 10 Movies as of Friday, June 14.

"Poor Things" is an adaptation of Alasdair Gray's 1992 novel of the same name. Set in the Victorian era, the film aims to be a darkly humorous, Frankenstein reimagined tale. Emma Stone plays Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by eccentric scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). With the brain of an infant, Bella sets out on a journey to learn more about herself and explore the world with childlike curiosity and wonder.

"Poor Things" has a high Rotten Tomatoes score of 92%, with critics calling it "the best film of 2023," proving that "there is room in this world for weird and wonderful films." The film focuses on identity, autonomy, and the complex nature of human nature, and will undoubtedly be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys gothic horror.

You've probably heard of this franchise, but if not, it's worth a look. Birth of the Planet of the Apes follows Will Rodman (James Franco) as he researches a cure for Alzheimer's disease. He administers an experimental drug to chimpanzees that dramatically improves their intelligence. One of the chimps, named Caesar, played by Andy Serkis, realizes the injustice his species is facing. After being placed in an abusive primate shelter, Caesar triggers a rebellion of genetically enhanced apes, signaling the beginning of a conflict between humans and apes.

Two other films from this reboot franchise are in Hulu's top 10, including "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "War for the Planet of the Apes"; after watching the first film, these are also worth watching.

The most recent horror film I watched was The Boogeyman. Two sisters, Sadie (Sophie Thatcher) and Sawyer Harper (Vivian Lila Blair), face the recent loss of their mother. Their father, Will (Chris Messina), a therapist, also struggles with grief and distances himself from his daughters.

The plot intensifies when Will's desperate patient shows up at their home and claims that an evil entity, the Boogeyman, is responsible for the death of his children. This encounter sets off a series of horrific events, and the family realizes that the boogeyman is real and haunts them. It is a well put together film that successfully explores the themes of grief, trauma, and primal fear of the unknown. I recommend watching it with the lights off for the full experience.
