Critics Shocked by Nicolas Cage's New Horror Film - 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The year 2024 seems to be a hit year for horror films, and as a lover of the genre, I have no complaints. "As much as I love the genre, I'm not complaining: "Day One" was released at the end of June, and the highly anticipated "Alien: Romulus" is coming in August. But there is one movie that has not been talked about enough.

Nicolas Cage, who plays the titular antagonist in this horror film, has long been a versatile star in Hollywood, moving through a variety of genres and roles throughout his career. His latest foray into the horror genre, "Longlegs," left critics in raptures.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Oz Perkins, "Longlegs" not only shocked and upset critics, but also achieved the rare feat of receiving a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. This unexpected accomplishment has already led many to call it the scariest and most unsettling film of the decade.

With expectations high and us horror fans eagerly awaiting its release, "Long Legs" promises to deliver a chilling and unforgettable cinematic experience. But what are critics actually saying about the film?

The marketing for "Longlegs" is incredibly impressive, and distributor Neon has revealed little about what the film is actually about. There is, of course, a basic synopsis, but that's basically all we get to see along with a terrifying trailer.

The synopsis goes like this: "FBI agent Lee Harker is assigned to an unsolved serial murder case that takes an unexpected turn and reveals evidence of the occult. Harker discovers a personal connection to the killer and must stop him before he strikes again.

Micah Monroe plays Lee Harker, a determined woman who wants to get to the bottom of the murder before another innocent family is destroyed. Nicolas Cage plays a killer who calls himself Long Legs, but it is even more disturbing that he is not really visible in the trailer. The film seems to focus primarily on a family that is targeted by the occult killer played by Cage. Again, there is not much else to say about the plot, which only adds to the creepy mystery.

What makes the upcoming horror film stand out is its Rotten Tomatoes score of 100%. Yes, only a few weeks before its release, it already has a perfect score. And although from only nine reviews, critics have some pretty incredible things to say about the film.

Megan Navarro of Bloody Disgusting says: "Longlegs gets under your skin and stays there, thoroughly immersing you in the repulsive discomfort of evil through terrifying imagery and palpable atmosphere." IGN Movie's Kate Reif, on the other hand, says: "There are moments when 'Longlegs' feels like a film you've seen somewhere else, but filtered through an evil filter: Perkins's horror surrealism makes the familiar strange and the strange familiar."

Not only that, the film has been called "the scariest movie of the decade" by Flickering Myth's EJ Moreno and "the scariest horror movie of 2024" by Slashfilm's Bill Breer.

And this review by Courtney Howard of Fresh Fiction must be added just for the sake of illustration: "Oz Perkins' cinematic freakfest is as if Satan had forged it in hell, and that Satan had brought it into this world as a gift He brought it into this world as a work of art.

"Long Legs" opens in theaters on July 12. That means there is less than a month left until we can experience true horror on the big screen. No word on whether there will be another trailer, but for the sake of mystery, let's hope Neon keeps up their disturbing marketing.
